I'm not saying other people should stop posting, I'm only saying YOU should stop posting.

If you are flattered that this thread has gone on so long and I stayed up with it, don't be. I was simply commenting on how ridiculous I find it that such a subjective and unanswerable question in the original post could get so many views and 150 replies (of which now 2 are mine). I said my piece, and now you won't find me viewing this thread again.

Hooray for open discourse!

As we've already determined that your original point of contention had not been in play in almost 6 pages, it seems odd not to see you acknowledge that fact. Seeing how you most likely parroted it to begin with, I'm not surprised by your brilliant retort.

I was simply commenting on how ridiculous I find it that such a subjective and unanswerable question in the original post could get so many views and 150 replies....
I think it's obvious that folks are having fun with the topic. Some have taken it to heart more than others, and it was their choice to do so.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, the thread's intention was never to find a right or a wrong, but to simply ask for the rational. There is no debate about VTA BOVs, as some have tried to assert. If you like it, use it. It's that simple.

I said my piece, and now you won't find me viewing this thread again.
I'm sure you will be missed..

Personally, I liked the reason presented in the context of a WRC car, with a loud exhaust and an audible BOV. I could see myself thinking something similar as I was blasting around in a '76 Scirocco when I was in college. I had an Ansa exhaust on the car and loved the way it sounded.

+1 for the exact same set up. I'm used to it now, but it's still loud and probably annoys or delights my passengers depending on their taste

IMHO I think this thread is annoying as well. The original poster asks the question "What is the apeal of a loud BOV".

We all know the answer, or more correctly, the answers. All cars emit noises inherent to their mechanicals and turbo cars have thier own particular noises (BOVs) most prominent in race cars where noise and fire shooting out from under the front wheels is not a problem (divorced WG).

The remaining discussion revolves around the phenomonon known as "rice" in which elements of racing are adopted for street use with no apparent consideration of funtionality.

I am not debating the funtionality of VTA BOVs or divorced waste gates, just trying to make the point that this thread is just another slighty better worded why do ricers rice thread.

You're going to have to take my word when I say that I really don't know anything about ricers except for what I see on the street. The question I posed was driven directly by the experience I described - being next to a WRX with a VTA BOV in traffic and hearing the sound every time he shifted.
