The sound of a BOV - what is the appeal?

I was next to a WRX the other day. I could hear his BOV after every shift. I couldn't comprehend how he could possible sit in the car day after day and listen to that grating sound. There are folks installing BOV just for the sound, and that puzzles me even more. Someone please tell me - what is the appeal? I'm probably too old to recognize it, as I'd rather mod a car not to make the sound than to actually seek its prominence.

See when it comes down to an Evo, there is NO modding that can be done to make the car be silent. So people realize that, and just try to make it sound cool...

Different strokes for different folks. I personally wouldn't mind having a cool psssshhh sound, especially after a hard shift. Some people who ride in my car dislike the exhaust system, even though its quiet relative to other systems on the market... but I love it! But they'd wonder how the heck can I stand having all that noise day in and day out...

My Forge RS is 100% recirculating, but with my Buschur intake, it is ridiculously loud (to me). It's very annoying, because I hear it even when not boosting hard or driving fast.

Guys, I'm looking for the rational behind the desire to have the sound. I understand that some think it's cool. I'm asking why that is. What is the appealing factor?

It's just different. You don't hear that from your "average" cars. Get over it.

To let the average whomever know your driving a Turboed car...pretty much all car enthusiasts love the sound.

maybe because once someone hears that Phhhh sound it means that car has a turbo and should be Reckon with!!!! the appealing factor of having that sound is that, that person wants everyone to know that his car is turbo'ed..

nothing screams "turbo power" more than a vta bov. lol

but seriously...no idea...i guess some do it for the "attention"
there was a riced out mr2 across traffic from me at a turning light. when he flew by he "blew off" on me. the pedestrians on the sidewalk all turned their heads and had that "awww thats cool" sort of look.

I took off, not even a glance. so needless to say...noise gets attention. others seem to think its intimidating. I've had a "not so polite" evo owner blow off on me as drive by...not to mention throw up some rocks on my brand new evo.

People who like pea soup usually don't eat it when its detrimental to their health, yet folks are proactively installing BOVs in cars whose performance suffers as a result just to get the sound. So what is it about the sound that some like?
