Given what you want, you'd be better off with a different car. I made the switch myself and I don't regret it.

You said it, that is the word i have been looking for, DRONE noise. That is exactly it. I have APS TBE, it is annoying. I have never been in another Evo with aftermarket exhaust to compare though. I know the stocker is quiet as hell. I dont need that quiet.
I think i have decided to keep her at least one more year and then maybe get a S4.
Until then it will be, coilovers/new catback/ Bushur or AMS FMIC/ dynoflash tune in my future. I know i flipped big time but....

As far as exhaust, the less-expensive high-horsepower exhausts usually net you lots of drone noise. (As much as they don't claim drone.) I'd seriously recommend something on the order of a nice system + a nice Magnaflow at the end. It'd net nice power, but the sound would be much more manageable.

Cheers,

Joel.

The MR is much softer then the GSR or the RS. I bought the MR package because of the 6 speed and I needed something that I was not going to mod that much that I could still take customers out in. The MR seemed much softer when I test drove the two cars on Michigan’s **** *** roads.

but more payment sucks.

Somebody (Motor Trend?) tested the MR against the GSR and found its damping vastly improved the ability to handle those little bumps and twitches on a road course that sent the GSR ping-ponging around the course. Unless you're going to the expense of a full road-course type after-market suspension, the MR suspension is the best choice for casual weekenders and those of us who must drive "real world" roads that aren't pancake flat. But the MR did beat the track time of the GSR, something that should remind us that it isn't really "too" soft, either!

I don't agree with you at all. The IX MR is a completely different car from the '03 EVO VIII. I've owned the '03 EVO VIII and the '05 MR and the difference is very noticeable. The IX's are even better, with more power and better seats. You are right about the depreciation, but I think you are totally off based suggesting more high performance coil over suspension and exhaust. Those things will make his car even stiffer and louder. He wants more comfort, not higher track performance. In my experience, none of the modified suspensions or aftermarket exhausts will make the car more comfortable. On the contrary, they'll drive him crazy by giving the car the exact opposite qualities he seeks.
