Now if somebody would only provide a link to the short shifter that included the whole linkage....I see a thread on evom a while back about some european company making a short shifter that reduced both horizontal and vertical throws. I started threads about it but nobody knew what i was talking about.

yea, i saw your thread. now i think i remember which you are talking about. it was like aluminum box that replaced the whole shifter cage, it also had pics of it for a posche that was anodized blue. but i do believe it was a semi-auto shifter like the Ikeya.

is this it? www.sqsracing.com it's still a sequential shifter and its 2000euros

im really considering getting a short shifter for my IX but i'm also on the fence. based on prior experience, when you miss a shift with a short shifter...it feels like its doing alot more damage than when you miss a shift with the stock one. my friend's VIII has a perrin short shifter and that feels really nice. i never knew the authority kit was so complete. i may have to look into that

Short Throw Shifter (B&M or Authority)

As far as "material and build quality" they both look and feel just fine.
The Authority feels a bit better with the extra $100.00 in your pocket that you saved.
LOL
Going on 5 months still loving it and have not missed a shift yet.

I have a perrin short shifter, it has crazy adjustability but you really do have to be careful. just get used to your new set up before you do anything too crazy. And to be perfectly honest I think i recieved better shift feel from base and cable bushings alone, the shifter itself only provided minimul feel.

i had a B&M short shifter (adjustable) in my 03 8 with the metal bushings and it felt great,35% reduction. along with the excedy twin the shifting was lightning quick and smooth as glass. But i,m leaving the shifter stock in my BR 350,it feels great and shifts perfect for me.

i have the same one and I agree totally..

Also if you think that a short shifter changes the way your gears use synchros to mesh then you need a very simple lesson in how transmissions work and or the simple laws of physics.. There is no logical way that a short shifter can damage your synchros.. I have had mine for over 6 months and anyone on this forum that knows me can tell you that i dont even think about driving my car unless i'm going to beat the living **** out of it and I dont have any problems with synchro wear..

don't know the whole science to it but this is what i know.
a short shifter will make shifting faster, which forces the synchro to work faster because it's forced together faster creating more heat and wear. if you're banging through each gears all the time, you'll wear it out much faster. shifting slower with a short shifter defeats the purpose of installing one to begin with but i guess to save your synchros use it only when at the track and shift slower for daily driving.
