Short shifter

What type of short shifter should I go with?

What ones should I stay away from?

nice spelling, lol. I was wondering if a short throw was even worth it in an evo, dosent it just bang up your transmission alot? I have heard good reviews about the shifter bushings though.

I have heard a short shirter will damage the tranny.. I am still tempted to get one also but I had one in my old wrx and it felt like 2nd gear was going to break any day with only a couple trips to the track and 25k so I think there is some truth to short shifters doing some damage..
Anyone else have a little more info on that?

I installed my standard b&m short throw when the car was only 4 months old. Had it on for quite some time but the more and more I drove friend's evos with stock shifters the more I questioned which I prefered. I had the b&m in the car with metal shifter linkage and base bushings with a rather heavy weighted greddy shift knob. I now run the same set up with a stock shifter and it just feels so less notchy. I have also heard that short throws cause premature synchro wear as well.

Well after using both the B&M Short Shifter Kit and the Authority Short Shifter Kit, I can tell you with out a doubt, "The Authority Short Shifter Kit" is the "Best Bang for the Buck"!!!

B&M Short Throw Shifter Non Adjustable - Cost $140.00.
The Kit includes detailed instructions. WOW "detailed instructions"
Now add 8pc Stiff Shifter Bushings Kit - Cost $28.00.
Now add 2pc Under-hood Stiff Bushings Kit - Cost $27.00.
Your going to need an OEM EVO Shifter Retainer - Cost $16.00. Well you can re-use the stock one if you cut the Stock Shifter in half.
I almost forgot, NO B&M Shift Knob! But thats OK, you can use your Stock Knob. You could spend $20.00 to $130.00 on a nice counter weighted Shift Knob.

Authority Short Shifter Kit - Cost $110.00
The Kit includes "A Nice" counter weighted Shift Knob, shifter retainer, 2pc under hood bushings, and the 8pc in car shifter bushings.

I will be posting up some install pictures in the next few weeks...

haha yeah, my forum dyslexia got me censored.

like others have said, i have heard that the short shifter can cause premature synchro wear, but unless i am at the track i am not really banging shifts much faster than i did with the stock shifter. so i am not too worried about it.

although i suppose i will have to wait and see if it makes my tranny crap out.

unless you shift like a retard you will be fine...i have had my b&m in for 20k miles now and have had NO tranny problems...I drive the car pretty hard everyweekend and have had NO issues. I guess some people have diferent ideas, maybe its not the ss thats creating the problem...maybe their getting off the clutch faster than they are shifting will will cause you to grind, which will wear out syncros. I dunno, from MY experience w/ my car I have had no ill effects.
