Here is my question:

Since it is controlled by the ECU and is based on engine load temp and all that other good stuff, can you reprogram the activation points and use it to control an Alcy injection system instead of the basically useless IC sprayer?

That would be a slick setup. No stupid control boxes or adding switches. Just reroute some plumbing and maybe step up to a more powerful motor. No guessing as to if is actually operating when you want it to because it is part of the ECU.

Edit: I see you were thinking the same thing. I was typing while you were posting.

That's the idea. The only other contention you would need is a "failsafe" (a LED which notifies you of a low water level in the reservoir)...

Suck me sideways

That's why I'd love to know if this is viable (when the system operates)...

I have seen some of the JDM companies offer some type of control or reflash for the sprayer system but, it's been so long since I've seen it I can't remember exactly what they had going on.

I definitely do like the idea of it being integrated with the ECU. I wonder if there is any way to make it where the ECU would only run the aggressive map when the unit was on auto and would switch to a conservative map with it off. That would be trick.

I think that the stock ECU is advanced enough to recognize this change and advance/retard timing accordingly.

aryder: correct. it does not...

The auto mode does the same thing as the manual.
It just sprays on its own while you're driving, according to your sensors, they cause the IC spraying when your car needs it.

Does anyone know the psi rating on the stock intercooler sprayer pump?

I had planned to add an LED hidden somewhere in the dash to show me when the pump is on... just to get an idea of how often it activates in Auto mode, but I never got around to it.

I've done complete track days at 80F and never noticed any fluid used in the reservoir, though it's pretty hard to see. I'm not sure how hot things need to be, but I think the limits are quite high.

When I bough my car, I drove it from LA to Oregon, I used almost 1.5 bottle of sprayer. It was set in auto mode. (all freeway driving)

I know this doesn't help....but from what I hear a while back....is that it doesn't even really work in Auto mode. obviously it works manually, but I heard that even if it is in Auto mode, it doesn't spray. I can't prove that, but this was a largely asked question when it first came out in '03 and the concensus I got was that it doesn't work in Auto mode. If you find out otherwise, I would love to know.

engine load+intake air temp+psi+max rpm+coolant temp = spray

well, at least you could do that on aem ems.

but i'm sure it's engine load + air intake temp most likely. I wouldn't think it'll be off of boost, since you'll be spraying every 3 seconds at the track.

it's definitely off of air intake temperature. probably off of a maf sensor or something.

You could probably hook it up to a seperate air intake temp, connect that to the uicp, have the micro switch connect to the air intake temp sensor, run it off of the motor for the ic sprayer and make it run automatically at certain intake air temperature.

the problem is how much it sprays each time and temperature and boost has to be considered when spraying methonal.
