So the aluminum ones don't get "stuff" on them or oxidize or seize or anything? Just the brass?

No we don't know each other but I do remember your spicy speed from the boards. I used to have a black speed but it got totaled so I stopped hanging out there.

mine didnt oxydize or get stuff on them. i just think thal lack of lubrication and dust did the trick.

at first i was SURE something got into the cable line that goes from the shifter through the firewall......i was ready to tear the dashboard appart.
i was actually relieved that it was only the bushing.

Hey guys - I work for speed-source so i figured I would chime in here

This is a strange occurance, but we can get it fixed. Are the shifter cable bushings seizing up on the inside of the bushing on the pin, or on the outside of the bushing in the shifter linkage?

It looks like mitsubishi has changed up the shifter cables a tiny bit from year to year on the evo - and while they have worked fine on the cars we have installed them on - we need feedback like this to change design...

On the cars I have installed the bushings on - I have never even used lube and been fine - I wonder if there is water getting into the engine bay from the hood vent you guys have... Do most of you keep that stock water drain in the hood vent - or take that out?

We have been selling these bushings for years, and never really had any major reported issues from any group surrounding them liek this. We value your input a great deal - always feel free to message be if you have an issue with our products because we believe in producing the best quality fit and constructed items at the best prices. It was mesages like this that helped us find the cable differences in the 5 and 6 speed evos!

And just so you guys know - the shifter cable bushings are brass - the base bushings are alodine coated aluminum... The 360 navel brass we use is known for its self-lubricating properties and resistence to corrosion

19.5psi you have PM also

If you could point me in the direction of any of those threads - I would appreciate it - since we would be happy to fix any issues surrounding the items we sell to the evo community.

I will search around the boards also - and see what I can find

my water drain is still there.
but, i do rinse my motor ocasionally, i believe this along with heat might have caused them to seize.

bushing itself seized at the pin, BUT i remember when i was putting the bushig into the linkage i had to force both of them in. we did 2 cars that day and bushings had to be forced on both.
they did however fit fine arround the pin.....not loose, but very percise.

Thanks for the heads up - looks like a similar problem... That is so strange because with all of the time we have spent producing and selling these bushings - a problem has never really come up.

We will take a look at the bushings - the design, and position in the engine bay and see what kind of a solution we can have for your guys - beside just lubricating them often, because on the installs I have done, lubrication has not been an issue

Used Speedsource when they first came out for the US Evo...used anti-seize and have not looked back... I'd suggest that over grease.

I have the speed source bushings and they work fine. It comes with sand paper for a reason so use it before you install them, thanks.

it depends heavily also on what type of lub you used before. lithium grease and sort may not stand up to engine temp for our car over a long period. in the other hand hightemp antiseize can stand up to exhaust temps so engine bay temp is a breeze.
