Pop between shifts = flame?

I've mastered the technique for getting a loud pop between 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. I'm running a ralliart sport air filter, test pipe and a Tanabe Ultra Medalion and no tune. I noticed that when I do it in traffic drivers immediately back off or move away from the back of my car, which makes me think its shooting a flame. I do it by giving full throttle in 2nd gear at 2000 rpm, then as the turbo begins to spool, at about 2900 rpms, I suddenly let off the throttle and push in the clutch, then immediately I give a quick jab at the throttle, maybe 15% and pop. Its very tricky to get right though.

whats not good about it? fouled spark plugs? when you get it right, the bang is WRC loud, I can only imagine how big the flame is. its not a big deal, its synonymous with rally cars, I encourage everyone to do it.

holy crap people do the same thing when im driving. Thats funny. it must be shooting flames. Thats what i was thinking too. my bumper is kinda melting so idk. i have stock exhaust and test pipe. I can hear major popping in the exhaust but it has the chambered stock muffler so idk if it can shoot flames or not. people back away from the thing though when it pops. High Hydrocarbons is not all bad. you would rather be rich than lean.

Popping's one thing, shooting flames is another. If you have a cat (not gutted), like your o2 sensors working, appreciate decent gas mileage and aren't opposed to more HP, I'd get it tuned. - All in my personal experience, anyway. Your car and all that.

Why does everyone think that tuning a car eliminates flames out the pipes when off throttle? When you come off throttle it still happens some times. It happens more when running pig rich for sure but, it will still do it after being tuned.

Look at DTM, JGTC, NASCAR, Trans AM, ALMS all those cars blow flames out the pipes and are running considerably more aggresive tunes than anyone on the street should be.

No the pop is normal. It's just unburnt fuel lighting off in the exhaust.

The cat pretty much works as a flame arrestor.

It is synonymous with rally cars because most of them run anti-lag.
