+1
I'd be pretty pissed myself if I was lied to by anybody for anything, especially a $30k car. Hope everything works out for you.
I am no appraiser but I find it pretty easy to see when I car has been wrecked. Just look at the bolts that hold the fenders on pretty easy to see if they have been turned. If I every bought a used evo (which I probably wouldn't) I would be all over that thing looking for even the slightest hint of damage or miss use. Good luck just return the thing don't wait bring it back right away I would have been back over there immeadiately the longer you wait the harder it will be. Oh and pay 20 bucks for the carfax I almost want to pay it for you just to find out what is there. What is the vin?
dealerships will almost say or do anything to make a sale if they can get away with it, i used to work at one. when i bought my evo my salesman told me they did a full tune up, and he specificly told me spark plugs, brakes, etc. so i went to the service and i asked what did they do and all they did was oil change and new brake pads. i was pissed.

Your advice on bolts is good though.
There are some other easy things to look for. Check the door jams and see if the stickers are still there. Also can check for paint overspray. Look around the edges and inside of where panels line up (like door jams, under the hood, etc). Once you detect a hint of a problem, you can usually start to trace it down by checking screws and bolts (lots of times the bolts on the frame will be painted with the car so if they have some of the paint stipped off, thats a good indicator).
I'm not 100% percent on this but, I believe they only have to disclose that there was damage to the car if it exceeds 25% of the vehicles value at the time of the accident. There is a good chance that they never even noticed the problems when the car was traded in and the owner probably did not disclose that it was in a wreck.
I'm not sure on the carfax report. They could be lying or maybe the owner paid out of pocket to get it fixed and it never got reported.
I'm pretty sure in NC you have a 30 day right of rescission on a used car. He should look into that.

lemon law doesn't apply. the same problem has to occur 3 times. but, get a lawyer. heres the cool thing about this. with the right lawyer, you can get urself a a couple hundred thousand, a new car every couple years (like a lease for free) and free maintenence. O and by the way, judges in the south are really picky when it comes to **** like this. so hes gunna reem that dealer a new ***.
there is a similar situation. Dude buys a new truck ( he lives in alabama, and the truck was bought used from a dealer, just like ur buddy, and was told no accidents.) well truck keeps breaking down. dealer say X ammount to fix, he says **** that, grabs the keys and goes to the auction. while at the auction the run the vin, it comes back with a salvage title, and he pulls the car from auction, visits lawyer. recieved 250k, a new truck of his choice when ever he wanted (at a reasonable timeframe, ex, 6months, 1 year, 2 years, etc...) and free maintenence on the truck for life.
so i guess maybe take it to the auto auction, they run the carfax before sale anyhow, act really P.O. when it comes back with 1 accident, and get one of them lawyers, and enjoy life.

I would really like to see a link to that article. I find that very hard to believe.

if this dealer was smart, they'd use an alternate dispute resolution to settle this out of court. 80% of cases like this never get to see a court. and believe me...you will still get a decent deal. i think www.ripoffreport.com is a great source for crap business's. the dealer will be at your mercy if you can prove it was wrecked and that they knew about it.
