Carfax report!!

A buddy of mine bought a 2006 Evolution MR recently. He paid $29k with 6K miles on it, which I thought was a pretty darn good deal.

The problem is that he is finding out many things right now that were not explained to him when he purchased the car. Like:

aftermarket exhaust

the BOV was unplugged from the bottom hose, and the hose was plugged up to make it so the stock BOV vented

1 lug nut (the locking one) was missing from each wheel

the a/c wasn't working practically at all...which has to do with the fact that the freon wasn't recharged after it was repaired from the ACCIDENT. The accident he was completely unaware of.

The car was sold to him without any mention of any accident. They told him it had a clear carfax report. I'm trying to find out for him what the report says. So if anyone has access to carfax, I would appreciate it. I would run it myself, but it does seem kind of expensive to run 1 car!!! Thanks, please PM me for VIN.

If its from a dealer not a Private Seller, you can Use the Lemon Law to get his money back. But maybe you can get the guy to fix it all.

it depends on your state. NC, where i'm assuming this deal went down, only does new vehicles.

but if this car was wrecked, that is deceptive trade practices, not lemon.

used Car Dealers are required to notify the ownof any repairs he/she has to make for the car to be safe. (another words Pass inspection) aslo we have to notify people if the car was in anaccidend, or has a salvage title. and if your buddy is under 19 and didn't have a cosigner its not a leagal sale. I know this is True in NJ. but Most used car dealers will fix most problems that the customer complains about to keep the consumer happy. And aslong as the Damage to the car from the Accident was repaired correctly and it din't involve the frame, you shouldn't worry about it. But since your asking for a Carfax I suppose ther is evident damage to the car. Basicly your buddy is getting into a mess and better start doing something now.

It's from the local (5-Star...what a joke) Dodge/Subaru dealership. They are the guys who told me for 3-4 months that my SRT-4 was completely normal.....which ended up getting lemoned out later!! Trust me when I say they won't fix ANYTHING they don't absolutely have to!!

The car seems to run perfectly fine. The idle was really low before we fixed the BOV thing, but now it seems to run better. Their are ripples in the paint where the frame support is (upper) so he brought it in to the dealership to ask what happened. The Mitsu dealer said that it looked like it was bent back and re-welded, like it was in an accident.

Whether it runs fine or not (luckily it seems to run great), if I bought a car that they told me never got into an accident when in fact it did....I would be PISSED!! As I would imagine most would, that's why I'm trying to help my buddy out cause it's wrong.

Yeah, we sat on the web for a while and tried to find concrete information about legal sales practices when it comes to car sales. We didn't really find anything that would help in a situation like this. I know it isn't a lemon situation because the car still runs perfectly.

It's sad that major dealerships get away with shady dealings such as this, but their isn't much to do about it. I tried calling the BBB on them last time I delt with this dealership, but that didn't get me anywhere. I mean c'mon, what kind of dealership sells a $30K car missing one lug nut on each wheel??

just tell your friend to get a CarFax report..then when it says that the car has been in an accident, have that dealer pay for the report.

I think $20 is a low price to pay for some degree of satisfaction..whether or not it says the car has been in an accident.

if i was spending 30k on a used car, i would have noticed the lugs missing, lack of cold ac and had a carfax report in hand before financing. buyer beware but good luck getting your money back.
