I pay $750 per year for an M3 and a Lotus Elise. I pay $1000 for the Evo. I couldn't believe the Evo was more than the Elise.

This is either a recent development, or just wrong. I checked on insurance on an 03 Cobra and it was about $400 more per year.

It must be weighted as cost to insure per $1 of vehicle value. Only thing I can think of.

My evo was more expensive to insure than a C5 Z06 when I was looking for my car last year. That doesn't make much sense. I'll happily pay the extra insurance for such a great car though.

Everybody should realize that the numbers in that article are pretty useless without a detailed explanation of how they were collected. In all likelihood, the statistics were generated by averaging the insurance premiums paid nationwide for each of the models. This is wrong and will cause huge bais for cars that appeal to older folks.

What should have been done is to take an individual, John Doe, age 27, credit score 735, etc., etc, and get quotes from varying providers on varying vehicles.

All that study has shown is that Evos probably appeal to younger folks. Duh.

EDIT: If only I could find Dana Dratch's email, I'd ask her to step up with _real_ numbers to back such a rediculous claim.

400 a month? So she's paying roughly 20% of her car's value every year to insure it? That's insanity. That's like buying two STIs - one for you and one for your insurance company.
