High Pressure Hose
Short answer....no.
I can imagine at a certain pressure level the water can damage your paint, but I doubt it's that strong at a car wash. Water pressure doesn't cause swirls though.
If you have swirls, take care of them first and then change your washing habits. Having a clean sponge/mitt or whatever your washing with is VERY important. Also, don't wash, polish or do anything with abrasives in circles. Their is A LOT of great info at www.autopia.org.
