2" Racing Harness for autox
Hi.
I was looking around for a racing harness to hold my body when I got autoxing.
I've realized that there are quite a price difference between 3" and 2" racing harness. 3" is pretty expensive but DOT certified or something.
Is 2" harness just for a show? does anyone autox with 2" harness?
I'm gonna only use a harness for autox and not on the street.
It's a safety device so I shouldn't go cheap but just wondering

I have a pair of Sparco 2" 3 point harnesses that i was gonna use for autocrossing but i dont need any more because i just crashed my car. If youre interested im selling them for $100 a piece.
Alot of autocross racers use relatively cheap 2" harnesses. They are just to hold you in your seat rather than a true safety device like an FIA or SFI approved 5, 6 or 7 point harness. As you mentioned, don't use them on the streets. I think there is only one 4-pt harness that is DOT approved for use on the street - a special Schroth harness that has a special feature built in to help keep you from crushing your noggin if you roll your car.

However, I think if it's install good, 4 pt harness should work as good as 5, 6, or 7 pt harness at autox speed.
The Schroth belts (Rallye3,4 and AutoControl) are DOT approved. They have a stiched in section that breaks loose when you get into a crash. That way you don't get mushed.
They're good for auto-x and DE's, but if you're really hauling ***, a rollbar and a 5-6 point Schroth Profi 2 is the way to go. They have a 3" shoulder belt and 2" lap belt...

This is what I think.

Just cause it's 2" does not mean it's not DOT approved.
As others have said, scroth is popular. I have some in my car.
You have to be careful though. A lot of people mount them to the rear seat bottom anchors, but you really shouldn't do that. It's dangerous in the event of an accident. I guess it's ok for autocross if you're just trying to keep yourself in your seat.
The shoulder mounts should be as horizontal as possble...either going to a harness bar or to the rear deck seatbelt anchor locations.

True, but Schroth is DOT legal. On most harnesses you want to keep the tail straps at less than a 15 degree downward angle. However, the Schroths are approved to use the lower seat belt mounting points, must be because of the ASM technology. They wouldn't say it's ok to mount them there if it wasn't...

I got them a few years ago...so maybe they changed some technology.
