yah AL, i hear you.. well i thought adding a catback would be good, but since you suggested that the IX exhaust system is good enough and that its best to do a turbo back, i would just leave the car alone and add a drop in filter.. would u suggest adding a fuel pump or the IX's are just good enough? thanks for the input..

-IX fuel filters should be good enough unless you're starting to put down a lot more power.
-CBE's are nice because they sound a little better, but don't wail like a Banshee like the TBE's.
-Drop in filters seem to be nice. However, I dyno'd a couple days ago with a CBE & the Works drop in and a guy I know with a CBE & the Buschur open air filter made more power. We were both stock ECU's. I suspect my i/c & licp may have actually hurt me a bit because I'm a little more laggy now and lost some psi.

Bottom line, you could probably just keep the stock exhaust, get a gauge & MBC and still realize a ton of extra power with a good tune.

so assuming i want to keep my car pretty quiet and stay out of trouble from the cops... i have gathered this info from you guys... If i want more power on my 06 ix gsr, and keep it like i said above, this is what to do - drop in filter, boost gauge, manual boost controller, and a custom dyno flash.... if this is correct please let me know... and also how much hp/tq do you think i would be looking at after that?? and lastly who should i go to for the custom tune... i am about 20 miles from los angeles.... and prices would be cool too... hehe sorry for being such a newb. thanks - steve

so the catback doesn't add any power? i've heard people say it does. what if you get a flash on your stock ix and you go from 290 whp to 320 whp. then you add a catback and get reflashed to get your afs in order. how much would he gain? would he get the 10 hp that manufacturers claim?

It is not a good idea to increse boost without exhaust(Too much back pressure),Another option is cutout + Testpipe or HFC.HFC will rob 10whp.A cutout is going to sound & look like stock

what kind of gains could he expect if he just adds a downpipe? would the gains be throughout the powerband, lowend, topend? what about noise levels?

If I was you, living in CA, Id do the dropin and custom flash (no MBC or catback). You will see a reasonable amount of extra power, but wont have to worry about the police or your warranty, cause your car will look like 100%stock to a dealer. If something really bad goes wrong with the engine or tranny and you are worried about the dealership checking for a flash, you can always have it flashed back to stock without too much bother.

my 2 cents.

yah... i hear you guys... a statement above saying that staying with stock exhaust, but getting a MBC and another gauge and dynoflash is good, but the stock exhaust would be my bottleneck, due to the increase in boost?

Look,

Any part of the stock exhaust is gonna reduce your power. DP, cat, muffler. Your question has already been answered with the variety of options listed above, depending on what you are looking for.

I'll spell it out for you, so please stop posting, you need to make a decision

Most Power combined with least warranty and high cop attention..

Full TBE with flash, MBC, and drop in

Least power (other than stock) with good warranty (providing they dont find it) and zero chance of the pigs hassling you-Flash only.

You can go anywhere in between those two, its all up to you But you need to make that decision

hahaha he must be used to the AIM/Texting lingo....
anyways, my question for you guys and sorry if this is dumb, but when you say dyno flash does this mean i have to send my ecu to a company and they flash it, then i go to a tuner after get the car tuned.... or can i just go to say Tuning Technologies and they can flash/tune in the Dyno Tuning session. The only thing im gonna have on the car is a drop in filter and this "flash".... thanks - steve
