I don't plan on driving it hard with kids inside, but it's good to know that there is room and anchors for baby seats. Thanks

Yes, I have two kids with two car seats in my car. There is enough room to keep the two kids apart. As mentioned earlier, it does have the top anchors. I am not using those though.

We have a Volvo S70T5 as our primary family car, but we used the Evo exclusively the first weekend we had it. We have two kids both in car seats.

The Evo back seat seems roomier than the Volvo's. Access to put the kids in and out was good. My wife says the front passenger seat is more comfortable than the Volvo's (good lateral and lumbar support).

The negatives as a family car as I see it:

Ride quality on bumpy roads is harsh.

Shifting the MT smoothly requires you to short shift and do a good job of matching engine speed. And when short shifting a close ratio transmission, you shift a lot. If you're not smooth, your passengers will know it.

Crash safety is perhaps not up to the standards of (for instance) a Volvo.

I would bet that the crash safety of the Evo is quite high. It has a great deal of added stiffness and rigidity compared to the US Lancer that is already a safe car. I would think that a rigid frame is safer, but I am mostly guessing here

Family?

I'm 6'1" 245lbs, wife is 5'7" 125lbs, 11 year old is about the size of the wife, and the holy terror 7 year old is not far behind... We are amazed at how great a family car it is...
