The car will actually hit boost cut where the car will basically cut fuel. You'll know when it happens. You will have a nice jolt and think you broke something. If you do it too much it will throw a CEL because it thinks something is wrong with the car. Im happy to answer your question, but why do you think your running too much boost?

P.S. Get a boost gauge asap. Shouldnt cost you but 50 bucks a gauge and its extremely simple to hook up.

Get a boost gauge and see how much boost you're making.

How much boost are you running? You do have a boost gauge, don't you? If not, then get one ASAP. What octane gas are you running? What are your mods? Do you have a boost controller installed?

Don't rely on your ear alone to detect detonation. Get your car tuned for the octane gas you run and your particular set of mods. Get a good set of gauges to monitor your car's vital signs, such as boost gauge, pyrometer, AFR gauge and a knock detecting or logging device.

i have a other than a blitz drop in, stock Evo IX. I have a Defi BF gauge and sometimes on the highway with 4th and 5th gear i hit almost 22psi which sometimes falls to 17psi by redline...

Is this high or not? I think the factory pressures are 20/~16, so it seems that i get a couple psis more than what the factory states? Good or Bad? Ohhh the fuel that i use is either Shell V-power 93 octane or Sunoco 93 octane...

No fuel cutting, no hesitations...only go! I have the peak function of the Defi to show you...

I've got an VIII running a Forge MBC & Defi gauges. My boost routinely shows up on the gauge at 23-24lbs, damn near maxing out the gauge. When Dynoflash tuned me, Al F. said based on my dyno numbers (279/291) that he thought my Defi gauge might be registering a bit high by 1 or 2 lbs, and said he thought I was really at around 23 lbs of boost. If that's so, I'm routinely running about 21-22 lbs or so with no problems... yet. And that includes multiple track days and dozens of autox runs.

Try to get a boost gauge ASAP. The sound can't be use as a reference, stock air filter with air box woulnd't give you a lot of sound.

When you are running too much boost it might be too late. Seriously, you nee to get yourself a boost gauge and start with your factory boost set up as a baseline.

Depending on the mods that you have you would have a different boost, even two people with two same Evos and same mods can have as much boost fdifference as 4psi (heat and high altitude vs cold and sea level)

I run a couple of PSI higher here in Tucson in the winter than in the summer.

too much boost really depends on many variables, you need to give us some more info on your setup...

I also heard that defi boost gauges read a little high..

I'd check it with another gauge just to be safe

With a little research you would have found that the amount of boost you can run typically is dependent upon many variables.

Are you tuned?

If so, what boost level were you TUNED for?

Have you done any datalogging? How's your timing curve? How's you AFR's?

The above will tell you how much boost your car likes. If you timing curve looks good and your AFR's are within safe levels then you're fine.

Yeah I think the Reccomended boost for an Evo is like 21 psi or something, but get it done by a Professional. Especialy if you don't know what too much boost is.
