I would service the car per the manual, severe driving conditions and IIRC that's every 5k miles. More frequently than that is overkill if you're not frequently tracking the car.

i have always stuck by the 3000 mile rule with all my cars. now i will be the first one to admit, like greg K said, that it may be over kill. but i would rather be safe than sorry.

Some of the info on synthetic oil suggests that intervals between oil changes may easily be extended to 10K miles. Is this an overstatement in the case of the EVO?

normal everyday driving...5k should be okay. track days and some occasional hard driving...3500-3700.

i've been changing at every 5k. the oil seems to be okay and not too black.

On my turbo cars i do it every 3K. Even with Mobil 1 the oil comes out pretty black and nasty. Turbos cook the crap out of oil. On non turbo cars i do it every 5k.

I get Wix filters for all my cars. You can get them at NAPA (Napa gold filter), CarQuest and sever other places.

I would say do what the manual says. They put that kind of info there for a reason. If you are driving in hot/high/hard conditions, then perhaps take 1/4 off that number to be on the really safe side. Keep in mind, this in not your fathers 1972 buick with standard oil. Mobil 1 synthetic has a good reputation thus far as far as engine protection is concerned.

thats way to early unless your driving hard from start to finish. if you're just daily driving your synthetic oil doesnt get the chance to work its best.

best oil changed for daily driven cars is 3000 or 5000 (if you just drive around). but in your case i'd do 3000 since its 130 degrees.
