race gas
race gas
i just got flashed by al...( frikken awesome) my car is stock and i was tuned for 93 octtane. i was wondering if i put race gas in 100 octane or so, if my car would feel a difference in performance, or if it wouldnt do anything at all... thanks everyone

you dont "need" to be tuned to raise the boost in your car.
Yeah, you'd be wasting your money. Funny enough I just recently added some 104 octane into my 93 octane and raised the boost to 25psi and wow....
Wish I could afford race gas on a daily basis.

Well your WHP u gain would vary due to dyno u use, but just as if u put bad gas in your timing will be pulled, well with higher octane it will raise your knock threshold and timing should advance. I seen this first hand at the track where my friend trapped 110.5 on 93 then with 104 oct he trapped 112.5 He did not adjust his boost controller at all he was still running 22.5 psi *about*
^^where'd that figure come from??? I've never seen a MPH to WHP conversion calculator before...
my understanding is that the stock ecu will advance timing with higher octane fuel. so yes, adding race gas will increase performance without any adjustments to boost...
EDIT: PE Call me meng.. it says ur phone is busy..

When I dumped in 104 mixed into my 93 boosting the same as I was before on 22-23lbs, I felt no difference at all. Only when I raised the boost to 25psi is where I felt the difference. I think it would be a good idea to dump in some 100 octane if all you were stuck with was 90 or 91 octane depending where you live.
no 1mph does not = 10whp thats just a avg rule for people to use... it doesnt work out exactly like that. But u can ask some other about this or let them chime in. I can tell u that it WASNT one pass @ 110.5 and one pass @ 112.5. It was multiple passes on each type of gas. Also i was out that night on pump gas trapping 109-110.5 all night. Me and him always run dead even (on closed roads) and i never seen a trap higher then 110.5 that night as he didnt until race gas. So u telling me that when i run him and everytime we run dead even then at the track on pump gas we put out the same times.. wich is expected, then he puts in race gas and gains 2 mph with out turning up boost.. on multiple runs. So yes he did gain mph on just race gas. But lets get a tuner in here to give thier feedback!
