I say go through insurance unless you can find cheap parts from a junkyard. At least with the insurance route, if the car isn't right you have some recourse.

looks like it just bent the lower control arm which would be repairable. any shots of where the axle enters the rear diff?

With an impact hard enough to shatter a wheel, it's a pretty safe bet that the axel and/or the rear differential sustained damage too.

definately repairable. Looks like the lower control arm took most of the damage. and I believe they are hydroformed (or something of that sort) so they collapse incase of an accident.

yeah anything you brake on an EVO is going to be expensive. I would report it unless you want to pay a few grand out of pocket. I mean just a control arm, rim, and new tire is going to be near 1K. Thats without labor and thats, if nothing else at all is messed up. My brother did the same thing on his talon tsi, ended up tie rod, control arm, sub frame damage, and suspension. Well anyways good luck.

he is implying you have to hit a curb pretty hard to crack a wheel...therefore the impact was rather large and may have damaged the axle...it's all speculation

i don't see why it'd hurt the diff especially when you see that the wheel and the lower control arm apparently absorbed most of the impact... the axle is still inside of the diff. i broke a wheel bad enough to pull the axle out and all i needed was a lower control arm and an axle rebuild....
