Quote: Anyone try the Amsoil filters? I used to run the Amsoil TSO series oil with an Amsoil eao filter in my rsx.

Nevermind, Amsoil doesn't make filters for the evo. Anyone use their oil though?

AMS OIL ALL THE WAY, but Mobil 1 is better now so i use that all the Cool kids are doing it

I stock AMSOIL but don't use it in my Evo, used to use it on My MR2 though.

I use Fram X2 filters. The regular frams are the worst but the X2 is actually one of the best made out there (search it). It has the metal end caps and filters extreamly well. Plus I get them for free. Ive used them on every performance car I have ever owned never an oil issue to date. Gotto love it

I've used Pure One's on all my cars and have never had a problem. Great filter for the price IMO.

DO NOT EVER USE FRAM FILTERS. They are complete garbage. Pureone filters are good however they contain WAY too much filter element, and can cause a drop in oil pressure (NOT GOOD). Mobil 1 filters are the best filters that you can buy (without slapping on a magnet).

I think you use the wrong part, go to pureoil.com

for evo it is part PL14459, not PL14610.
If you selected Lancer, it showed PL14610 for 2.0 Engine
If you selected Lancer Evo, it showed PL14459 for 2.0 Engine Turbo

I always used them. They are much better than Farm.
And I know their Pulator are the OEM filter for subaru.
PureOne is better

definitely. or a nice fram filter. oem filters suck. the dealer told me next time i come in with another filter they might void my warranty. now thats crazy. save your money. do your oil change yourself.

If the factory filter is better than a PureOne then it is a very good filter. I would be very surprised if someone could prove this so. However, the parts book specified size for a PureOne filter produces a tiny filter. It looks to be the same small one they specified for DSMs. By the way, this was also the wrong size. But that is another story.

Mitsu says that any filter specified for any of their engines will fit any other Mitsu engine. This is straight from the factory.

Oh, filters do not have pressure regulators. What they have is a bypass valve. If the filter media gets plugged and causes too much back pressure then the bypass valve will open. You don't want this to happen. Having the bypass valve operate is what causes ticking lifters. You are then pumping dirt straight out of the pan. Some cheap filters like Fram have poorly designed bypass valves that either open too soon or leak.

So, I suggest you want a PureOne filter due to its superior filtering media. However, filter media that can take out extremely small particles is prone to plugging and bypassing. To get around this you want as large a filter as possible with more media surface area. The solution is easy. Go buy the PureOne filter specified for a Dodge Stealth. It is big. Remember, all filters specified for Mitsu engines fit all their engines so the Stealth filter fits the Evo. It is what I run.

This is incorrect. I have used taller than stock filters, and they still have plenty of room left (they still aren't lower than the exhaust or other parts of the car!)

I was using the purolator at an autox last year and guess what. A freakin cone managed to dent the filter. That little extra bit it sticks out was enough to catch the cone. I ended up dumping all of my oil on the course. Wasn't fun until I figured out that it was just the oil filter that gave way. Fortunately there was no permanent damage, threw on a mitsu filter, poured in some oil, and we continued

So again, don't use a Purolator or any other filter that's taller than stock.
