Just rear ended have a couple questions

A woman jumped the gun at a stop light a bit and rolled into my silver '06 IX MR. There probably would not have been any damage but three screws from her front license plate gouged my rear bumper.

I am trying to figure out what I want to do. I called up the Mitsubishi dealer and he said the bumpers do not come pre-painted from the factory. I have had problems with color matching on a pearl white car, is it hard to color match silver? I might just keep the gouges over having a rear bumper that does not match.

I could also try and get a JDM IX bumper, not sure the price and where to get it. Also what about the crash bumper underneath? Can I reuse my old one?

I swear I just hit 5K on the car and already I got hit.

I found it at Gruppe S http://www.gruppe-s.com/Evo/evoext/evo9.htm
Anyone ever deal with them?

silver is one of the worst (non pearl) colors to color match. But, it sounds like all you need is a little filler, prime, sand, blend the silver over the repair and then clear the entire bumper. With a decent blend you'll never be able to see any mismatch. It does not sound like you need a new bumper; insurance will only give you the minimum repair to get by.

Dont u have to remove something or cut something to fit this.... i know the website says the contrary, but i've read plenty of info on this forum saying otherwise...

I believe you have to remove the crash beam in order to get the JDM IX rear bumper to fit.

^ That is correct! Only USDM have rear Crash Beam.
And if you buy it pre-painted the color will match just fine.

As for matching, Silver actually is the easiest Evo color to match. The hardest is Yellow. Guess why Mitsu decided to drop Yellow from the line up. There has never been a perfectly matched paint Yellow Evo from the factory.

So JDM Bumper does not have a crash beam or the foam backing stuff. I assume those are on the USDM for accidents < 10 MPH. I don't really care about low speed crashes it is the faster ones I am worried about.

I have also had polyurathene bumpers "repaired" before and they just dont come out right, and this gives me an accuse to get the very nice looking JDM one.

So does the license plate bar thing come with the kits?

When I think about crash bumpers I remember my 3000GT it had a huge 4x4 looking aluminum beam on the front.

Sorry to hear about your accident. The JDM bumpers are selling for $700 shipped.

Your car is new enough that if you get it a good body shop to paint it, it should match pretty close. The cars that have been out for awhile is what you'd need to be more worried about.

well it truthfully, its what you want to be done. have the car been taken to the shops? have you arranged anything? if the price of getting that one painted is as good as getting a new one painted, mind as well get a JDM IX. its about 6 to 8oo for a whole new bumper*painted*

good luck
