CEL P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction - Dealer says need to change throttle body
I'm trying to troubleshoot this problem with dxbtune. To start off, how many of you who have had this P0505 code come up are on stock exhaust, and how many are on aftermarket:
1. catback
2. downpipe
3. decat
4. exhaust manifold
5. O2 housing
I need to eliminate the likelihood that the P0505 has something to do with the exhaust system before moving on to the next likely cause...

The cel was on driving around all day today, when i got home the car was off for around 2 hours when i started it back up the cel was gone?.. strange.. not only does it trip the cel light but it allows it to switch back off withought needing to clear the code..

i have the damn code as well! P0505 i always thought it was my TBE. got it serviced today and asked them to read the code for me. P0505 .. they said there was something wrong with the "idle count". They also said it was because of my exhaust .. i dunno. i have the mechanical fix.
mods:
TBE
drop in filer
o2 housing
FMIC
LICP
fuel pump
flash
anyone know what this is yet? car runs fine

Just to give an update since I started this thread - my P505 cel issue has been resolved after installing cams.
It might have been due to slightly higher idle - I have no idea. It just went away...

thanks for the update. i just ordered my cams last night (not to get ride of the CEL ofcourse) and i hope it resolves the issue.
I did some reading and some say it has something to do with the throttlebody. not that it is defective, but a little cleaning helped some people out.
anyone care to share some info on the p0505? there are only 6 threads on the whole forum and only 3 are related

Thats wierd...My P505 error started after installing my cossie cams
when cold the car will idle just under 2000rpm for a min or two and idles perfectly when it warms up....did this even before i fitted cams and after....
surely there must be a fix for this??? clearing the code does not help as it just comes back again

someone at mitsubishi has told me the code comes up from carbon build up in the idle control valve
what you do is take the valve off (just under the throttle body), clean it thoroughly and then put a bit of grease on it before you put it back on. if you dont put a touch of grease on, the code will come right back.
if you do it properly the code will go away
