CEL P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction - Dealer says need to change throttle body
CEL P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction - Dealer says need to change throttle body
I have been getting a cel thinking that it was the decat pipe. took the car to the dealership past weekend. It was the p0505 code. car runs great - no problems.
the dealer tells me they need to change the throttle body but first they need to contact the domestic distributor to get the go ahead fro waranty work. the dealership calls me today and tell me they can't cover it under guarantee since I have a 'turbo timer'. the dealer had seen my defi gauges and control unit when I brought the car in and thougt that my defi controller was a turbo timer
very knowledgable people these mitsubishi dealers
Anyways, anybody ever had this error code? I contacted my shop and they told me its common in evo 8 & 9s. My shop also tells me that I don't have to change the throttle body if the cel light was not bothering me. I would rather have the cel off and working correctly, but I do not feel like parting with $700 for a new throttle body if this one still works correctly
If you had first hand experience with this or are knowledgable about throttle bodies and what might be causing this, you input will be much appreciated.

not even gonna bother calling mitsu. the way they approached, there is no way they will change anything under warranty. if they do not replace a TB under warranty thinking I have a turbo timer, they will not do it once they see the 02 housing, cat delete, etc...
I wonder whether I can diagnose what the problem is though. I don't want to start buying/changing sensors without knowing what the problem is.
you think this will hurt the car/engine in any way?

Do you have a wideband? Check your A/F's. If not take it somwhere that will diagnose it right for you the first time. I bet its one of the two sensors I mentioned. Or you could put the car back to stock and take it to another dealer
Mitsu Have A problem With Baro Sensors, That Sensor on the top of your manifold. But Ask the Dealer ship to Explain to you how the Aftermarket parts Damage the Throttle body. And then post teh expliantion here and I will give yuou a counter Explination.
I would hope that as long as the MAF reading is correct, TB would not affect AFRs. Can you explain further?

Just Tell them to Explain How your Aftermarket PArts destroyed the Throtle Body if they Can't backup their theroy they have to Replace the Parts under warranty. Send me The explianation if you don't understand or you want a Counter to it.
BTW you don't have to change the Throtle Body, you have something called an IAC motor which is a stepper Motor and go Bad Easily, Its just under the Throtle Body, if any thing i would change that first. with the intake pipe disconected i would examine the Throtle Body for Cracks or carbon buildup, Maybe you might want to spray some carb cleaner on the Plate to clean off any debris, don't spray alot. ( you car is still new so you shouldn't have to do that.) But the Motor is like a Cylner shape and angles to a Smaller Cylnder, Its about 60 mm thick and held on by I believe 3 10mm bolts. There should be a 6 wire New denso Style conector on it. All six pins are occupied by wires. You have to change that at most not the Throtle body.

First of all here is a link showing the throttle body.

As you probably know, the code you are getting is related
to the Air Idle Control motor circuit.
Your car is fairly new, so I'm surprised you're have this problem so soon.
Have you tried clearing the ECU to see if the code will stay off ?

^ yeah did you Clear the ECM first? there is a fuse called the MFI or EFI fuse pull it for like 10 seconds, Disocnecting the Battery will Clear you radio Presets and maybe mess with you Gauges, I am not sure how the Defi Gauges work and if they have any presets. If you don't want to do that Go to Auto Zone or a shop that will Scan and clear your Computer for free and double check to see what code you Have too, maybe the Dealer is Lying and you have a Code like Catalytic Effeincy or something that results from your mods. Because the p0505 is usaly acompined with some Harsh symptoms like High Idle and other things.
I called the dealership - the code is 505 for sure.
Now that I think about it, the car has might have high idle (around 2000rpm) when it is cold - just for the first minute or two. After it warms up, all is fine and the idle is steady at around 900 (will comfirm on the way home)
What is the cure for this - Is it possible to clean the IAC?

Yeah But what i am Saying is maybe the Misread the code or something, so double chek it with another scanner, actauly have your Car Scanned again. Your Idle Seems normal, IT should hit almost if not 2000 rpms when its first started in the Morning. Just get it scanned by another dealer or a shop that will do it for free. Like Auto zone.
Dude I went to Go Check for A Diagnosis and Repair Procedure for that code. Its not a Valid code for that Vehicle, Definetly have the Code Double Checked.
