What if i can get the EVO for $3300 cheaper than the STi ?
Don't loose anymore sleep on the subject and just get the EVO!
I have an STI on order and decided to test drive the
EVO needless to say I owned it within a couple days and have not regretted it one bit.

I am going for a test drive tomorrow, then i'm gonna think real hard and choose the EVO. I personally don't like the new subie styling (used to pine for a 2.5RS b4 the WRX came out, ended up with a turbo VW GTI
) that hood scoop is too much for me. The EVO is a little more subtle, and in the new Car and Driver the EVO beats the STi in a comparo AND Rod Millen liked the EVO over the STi ( a true racers opinion)......no matter the $$$ diff I like the EVO...did I make that clear

wait till the STi comes out, better yet wait till the dust settles. Im in the same boat, whatever im gonna buy its gonna be next year.
Word of caution "DO NOT GO CHECK OUT THE EVO", you will need prayer and will power to walk out without owning one.

The biggest advantage of the STi is the 30 hp. With 1k in mods you can negate that advantage and still walk away with 2k in your pocket.
Since you've waited this long. Wait for the test drive of the STi. And take "TrippinFlip"'s advice, don't testdrive the EVO until then. I test drove it and bought it the next day.

when you have your loan approved, money in your account...
make your way to Subaru, ask for a test drive, let them know you have the $$$... be strong, walk back to your car... drive to Mitsu, tell them you have $$$ and are interested in an STi and you need to test drive to make your decision...
there is no way they will let you walk out of eachothers dealer with another brand car, so they will bargin with you for the best price...

EVO all the way... It handles way better looks way better the suspension is way better the seats are way better and with an extra 3 grand .. dude you can get a Vishnu kit that will put you in the runnings with Z06 corvette and porsch 911 This is a no brainer. Another idea is that 3000 will get you a really tight sound system just food for thought.

The deciding factor for me was seeing a guy on the freeeway one day with a white plastic grocery bag stuck to the STI hood scoop. After that I could not get over the looks of the STI, and got the EVO instead. I keep thinking someday I'm gonna catch a platic bag on the wing, but it hasn't happened yet.
The other thing was that back in Dec 03 no Subaru dealer would let me test drive an STI - so that was that.

This is a "collector's edition" thread. Al has just over 300hp at the wheels!! Just came over from the dark side! Wow.
Now the question becomes: Should I get the MR if it is $3000 more than the Sti !!
HAHAHA when i read the thread i was like... 3000 less than sti, uhm... isn't that choice obvious? but i guess you are a previous wrx owner or you're pretty big fan right?
i don't think the sti is a joke... and i don't think it's geared towards grocery getting, i think it's geared towards people that want to modify, it has all the goodies that you shouldn't wanna modify (like the diffs, the electronics, the gear box, the rims are an exception, you might wanna get ridda those) and everything else you can sack. suspesion? BAH you're gonna get coils, understeer? BAH you know you're gonna get strut tower bars and sway bars. brakes? they're ok, BAH you know you wanna upgrade 'em after hot lapping a few times. too much boost creep after you freed up the exhaust? BAH get a new turbine with an external wastegate... see... it's all a simple formula. i'd say the sti is a good platform to BEGIN (as is the evo of course!!!!) the evo is more complete right out of the box, but who's gonna say either of these cars doesn't deserve all your money in mods? no one.
key point, learn the car as it is, when you get really mad with the understeer, get coilovers get strut tower bars, get sway bars, fix it. when you get tired of the engine noise and you want exhaust note but that makes you boost creep up to 20 psi, port yer wastegate get a new turbo... fix it.
i got the evo cuz it's "3300 cheaper than the sti" hehe and i didn't want to wait for the mr :\.
