Personally I'd say to just get an in person look at the STi before you make the big choice...as much as I like the evo, there's a lot to be said for the competition.
Willie - whats up bro??? You got to call me man - I lost your number - you GOT to come for a ride in my EVO now that it was 317 wheel HP - its sicko fast !!!
If you really want to stick with those SLOWbaRU's - I have the #1 position contract for a STI at msrp you can have the contract if you want it
BUT - after having the EVO for two months - there is no WAY I would ever go back to the SLOWbaRU - - I love my evo and its getting better day by day
take a look at some of the stuff I did so far . . . . http://www.pruvenperformance.com/alevo.htm
BTW - every Sunday night we have a big EVO meet up at nanuet NY - - rt 59 and 304 interesection in the Pathmark parking lot - it starts about 9:30 till 11:30 p.m. - - there is usually one of every color there - we had 10 evo's there two weeks ago so you can see all the colors and figure out which one you like best !

If the evo cost $3300 more than the STi, that would be a hard choice
From magazine racing alone evo is faster on and off road with front open diff and less horspower so what does that tell you
Yes, the STi is a better deal with front LSD but it's hard to turndown a more superior suspention setup. Wishbone/ multilink rear and strut on front. VS. Strut strut for STi.
Oh yeah more of a racers steering ratio which i'd take over DCCD since DCCD it did not prove itself against the evo.
Truthfully, i'm real dissappointed with the STi. Where is the spec C's 13:1 steering ratio? No spec C suspention and shocks? Dont get me wrong i like to have both luxary and performance but having better rims, front lsd, and electronic diffs and still cannot out perform the evo with 29 more hp with more understeer is a joke! Obviously the U.S. Sti is geared towards grocery getting so that's not for me. Hello subaru?

Thanx
Thanx everyone for the warm susgestion , one thing i really dissapointed about the STI is the EJ25 for the US , is totally different than the Japan STI , different turbo , smaller injector , smaller intercooler and Ecu and stuff , but the six spd and dccd is really sweet , for Evo .... gotta love that 4G63 and the Recaro seat plus exterior looking is rock , better than STI , but if its come with AYC ACD i will no questiuon just walk to the dealer .
I feel the pain. I have an '02 WRX Wagon as my pacifier until I can decide on either the Evo or STi. I am forcing myself to wait until I can sit in and drive both the STi and Evo before deciding.
I saw the Evo for the first time in person today. I stopped by my local dealership and they had 5 Evos (2 yellow, 1 red, 1 blue,1 silver). I had kinda hoped I might find something(s) about the Evo that would turn me off and leave me with the easy choice of just waiting for an STi. Well, that just didn't happen.
I made the mistake of sitting in one (Blue one of course). Here are my observations:
* Sweet mother, I could not believe the fit of those Recaros, it was like a glove.
* Shifter feel was just crazy tight (my Subie shifter feels like a chicken noodle in comparison).
* The car has a seriously intimidating presence. It just LOOKS like it is ready to launch. Doors shut tight, shifter is tight, Recaros fit tight, suspension is tight (doesn't rock or move hardly when pushed on, doors shut, etc.). Pictures and videos just don't do it justice. It looks mean and fast even when sitting still. Man, it was just beautiful.
* The interior was suprisingly OK to me. I was expecting it to somehow be really bad and plasticky with gaps and mold seams, but I thought it was acceptable. I had seen the 5th gear video and read other reviews (mags, forums) that poo-pooed the interior, so I was expecting worse.
* The stereo looks completely lame, like it came from a 1980s Nissan Sentra or something. At least it gets a stock stereo (compared to the STi), and I didn't get to listen to it (is it any good at all?). Sheesh, it looks like poop, I'd probably have to replace it no matter what.
* Rear seat legroom is better than my WRX, but doesn't have the pass-through or folding seats (oh well).
The salesman was working hard to get me to buy it, suggesting he would deal. Man, it took ALOT of willpower to walk away and force myself to wait for the STi.
But if I could get an Evo for $3,000+ less than an STi, ...
. That will be a tough decision.

Hear too many bad things about AYC. What i really want to see is USDM evo 8 vs JDM evo 8 with and without AYC. I want to know if it's faster or a gimmic. If the STi blew the evo out of the water because of DCCD and front LSD my car would be sold already.
People should buy a subaru just because they gave us everything "almost". If it came with full spec C with all the interior goodies "like jdm seats" it would of been a hard decision on my part.

Wow, if you can get the Evo for $3k less than the STi, do it!!!
Even if you get the STi, you still need to spend another few hundred say $500 for a decent stereo and another $500 or so to get decent Recaro seats (and sell the STi seats). This will make it $4k more.
It's a toss up if the price difference is $1k but for $3k, most definitely get the Evo.
It already has a FMIC and no view-blocking and air-dragging vibrating hoodscoop, so tunability is better.
Yes, go for the Evo.

I keep forgetting about how GREAT those recaro seats are ! They are simply amazingly confortable and also very very good for my back ! Those alone would make the differnce for me
That the rear suspension and the fmic seal the deal for me
