New Compliance Laws for Oz.

[rant]
*sigh*

You know that Evo 6.5 I was going to get in 6 weeks, 3 weeks ago? Well, as of yesterday, the compliance laws changed, and the person I was going to get to comply it with Australian standards can't do it anymore...

What more, because the EVO 6.5 is a rare car here, not many people wanted to go for their licence to comply them.

So it means my Evo is going to be delayed. How long, I don't know, but a shop in Melbourne (700 miles from Sydney) is the only place I can find that will do it. So will have to get the car shipped down there, then I can either drive it back up or have it trailered back up.

AFAIK you cannot comply E6.5 in Australia, as they were locally brought in. Same goes with E4 & E5, those you see would have all mostly been private imports or done by dodgy compliance, which I won't go into here. Earlier E1-3 & E6 before they brough the TME were able to be brought over by import dealers, but now it's very difficult apart from personal import. Thus that leaves you with only E7 and E8, but the E8 will be coming to Australia soon so wait for that, hopefully it will be the same as the JDM model (UK E8 are same as the JDM) and not a watered down model. If you wish there are already a few E7 brought in 2001 by import dealers, if you fancy one you can check them out.

No matter whatever Evo you find/buy apart from the 100 TME RS2 brought into Australia, make sure they have the Yellow compliance plate (personal import) without them I would walk away. There used to be a loop hole with dodgy Evo compliance in Victoria which is where you will find most of the earlier Evos sold but the Govt quickly closed in on that.

Cheers
T

/edit: just re-read your post is your Evo going to be a personal import? Because it's strange to me that you have landed your Evo at an Australian port and Custom has cleared it.
