Evo to RX7
The V8 is a great option to increase both power and reliability in the RX-7, however you will be completely destroying the balance of the chassis by adding so much weight to the front end of the car. If you choose to go this route, don't expect it to handle like it had a 200 lb rotory underneath the hood.
actually the ls1 only weighs 40lbs more than the 13b. so you won't be destroying the weight balance of the chassis. you have to remember that the LS1 is aluminum - not iron.

And you can get a running drivetrain from ebay with a 345hp LS1 for less than $4,000. So 350hp is just an air filter away.
edit* i haven't read of anyone putting a turbo on the their LS1 FD but it's all a matter of space. i'm sure you could do a jy turbo and there's gotta be some companies making kits for the ls1. i think traction may become an issue, though.

You may want to consider a used c5 z06 or a used viper as well. It doesn't cost that much more than a nice rx7 and LS1 conversion, may be even less. Rx7's shape is beautiful but the other 2 are sexy as hell. I don't know about the z06's driving but the viper's torque is really nice and you won't miss your evo at all... until you're going around the corner, in the rain, and have to brake
I've heard the z06 handles really well and can be a great daily driver.
Then again, a rx7 + LS1 is crazy and very unique. I've seen couple or rx7 with proper cosmetic mods -- simply beautiful, especially a black one, tinted, lights smoked all around.

there was a guy on an ls1 board who made a twin turbo LT-4 swap into his RX-7. Built the kit himself, and i think he was starting to sell atleast the hotparts as a kit. So it is possible, but now you're talking about a REAL project car. You'd run out of traction long before you'd run out of power potential with something like that!

Funny I was just thinking about that the other day..... I went through stock 3 motors in my Turbo II, found out years latter the problem was the ecu. Got 250,000 out of my 86 GXL though.
