Need 30k service advise
Well, what would be best to tell Shep or TRE? Just to fix 2nd gear, or rebuild the whole tranny? A brand new tranny from lancershop is 3K. That's about how much it would cost by the time I get done with shep or tre, right?
I was quoted $640 to remove my tranny, and put it back in when it gets shipped back. Does that sound about right? Then, TRE charges $175 for shipping, then they will call with estimate. Looks like it might run $2500 max. Not to mention, I would be renting a car for a month. Since I cant afford all of that right now, I guess I'm gonna take it to the dealer and just see what happens. I mean, if they can't work on Evo tranny's, then maybe they'll just replace it.
Well, $1000 dollars sounds alot better, but it would be closer to $1900 total with labor to remove, ship, and reinstall tranny. So, I could do that only if Mitsu will not warranty it. They should though. Atleast at the dealer I bought it from 4 hours away. Now, my brakes shake bad at high speeds. I need some good street pads. Will bedding them properly possibly cure the shakes, or is resurfacing necessary?
I think I'm gonna tell my dealer to look at my tranny first, without doing the 30k service. Becuase I don't want to pay them $500 bucks for the 30K, and then pay more for them looking at my tranny and not fixing it. Looks like the best way is to do the 30K partially by myself and some by my tuner, and send my tranny to tre. This sux!! Maybe I'll just skip 2nd gear....
Dude, bring your car to Mitsu. If they void the warranty, oh well, its a ****ty warranty anyway. If they fix the transmission under warranty, then youre all good. If not, send it off. Get it over with.
Shep charges 930 for a tranny rebuild including shipping back. Itll cost you approx 100 to ship it probably. Ask around in the south forums if someone can help you pull it.
Brake shake is your warped *** rotors. pads or bleeding will not help this. Youll need to get new ones or get them cut. You'll wanna put new pads in as well.
Nothing against you man cause if you were in my area i'd be glad to help you out but these are the things that people dont relize when buying an EVO maintenence cost.
$1000 Tranny rebuild
$150 Hawk pads/Project Mu pads (street models)
$350 4 Rotor Pros/Rotor Works rotors (if yours cant be cut)
$???? Labor
Stuff gets costly man. Good luck

Maybe you could teach yourself to double clutch.

Man, thanks everyone. With these last posts, I have finally reached my decision:
1. I'm going to take the transmission into Mitsubishi and hope they repair it under warranty. If they don't, I will live literally live with it until it breaks. Mainly because I never get going until after 2nd gear anyways, and I can't afford it right now. I never race the car, but I hit the twisties.
2. The brakes are much more important to me. I am going to get the rotors resurfaced or cut and get good pads all around. Because nothing sucks more than having a fast car, and not being able to brake good.
3. The fluids I'm definately going to start doing myself in the future, but this time I'm going to let my tuner do it. He is awesome, and let's me watch and gives me advise, so that's worth it to me.
And yes, my situation is a prime example on what people don't expect from an Evo. Especially used. I know I have alot of expenses to have on this car. I've already spent way more money on this car than any car I've ever owned. But as I've said my whole life....you only live once. And I haven't regretted a minute of it yet. I mean, I drive my dream car, what else could I ask for?
