JTurbo: 100 Octane? Do ALL 76 stations have this? I have never seen it in Norcal or Central Valley... If I could mix it, like you are doing, I would definitely do that. I also feel the power loss often, must be the timing retarding as you mention. It is not all the time, but often, and it kinda bugs me. So, anybody in SFO Bay Area or in Fresno Area know where to get 100 Octane?

Only station nearby that carries 100 octane is the 76 on the corner of Foxworthy Ave. and Almaden Expwy. in San Jose.

Praise be to them.

Its the cool-blue 100 that 76 is pushing ... 2 or 3 stations in my area have it. I live near Newport Beach, so i guess a bunch of the rich-leet dudes with their 911 Turbos, 360 Modena's and other such uber cars buy a lot of it

Ive heard of people who buy drums of it also, and mix it at home themselves ... this scares me a little, as i can visibly see the pilot-lite in my water heater in my garage, and the thought of gas fumes and that is disturbing, hehe .. id have to keep the drums in the backyard or something and cart them around to the driveway to fill up

I was curious to know how much the 100 octane gas would be. Also, what would be the disadvantage of just using octane boost additives?

At the aforementioned 76 gas station, it runs about $4.29 a gallon.

From what I've read on this board, off-the-shelf octane boosters can actually reduce power because they can slow the rate of fuel burn to the point where compression is actually reduced over lower octane mixtures.

Living in L.A. sucks due to the fact that the highest octane we have is 91, but we NEVER have to worry about snow or too much rain, so I guess it's a wash with all of you guys who are fortunate enough to have 93/94 octane pump gas. I am, however lucky that I live 5 blocks from a 76 station that sells 100 octane gas (and there are 5 or 6 76's that sell it within a 10 mile radius). I'm at a 1/2 tank right now and as soon as it is on E I'll mix in some 100 and see how it feels. Only bad thing is that here the 100 is $5.40/gal!!!!

We have 92 here in washington but I have a 76 station near work that has 101octane at the pump unleaded I mix 11 to 3 to get 94 and it really makes a diffrence the evo likes octane the more the better one time I spoiled the car and gave it 96 octane and it hummed. I wish the refineries would just bring back 100 octane to ever pump.

Gee, a dollar difference between L.A. and O.C. !! I filled up at the 76 in Newport Beach last week and the week before and both times it was $4.49 / gal. And I think coolguy posted previously that he phoned around and got cheaper than that.

I live in AZ. Our 91 octane isn't really 91. In the summer instead of it being the 91 with 10% ethanol like it is in the winter, it is switched with 91 oxygenated 15% ether. I heard they do this for polution being worse in the summer. All I know is that it's **** water gas and it makes me . I mix 2 gallons of Phillip's 76 100 octane @ 4.99 a gallon with my 91 **** water. I feel a big power difference when I do this over 91 **** water.

Oh yeah!! I've run about 20 miles with my gas "coctail" (4@100--8@91), and it makes a HUUUUGGGGGEEEEE difference. I know that some of it is in my head, but the engine definately makes more power and is smoother. And yes it sucks that 4 gal of 100 was more than 8 of 91, but that's the price we have to pay. Like I said...the station is RIGHT down the street, and I'm willing to pay the premium for the added convenience. But for those of you who haven't tried it yet I absolutely recommend it, you will not be sorry.

How long were you using just 91 octane and how long did it take after mixing in the 100 octane until you felt the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference?

Thanks,
Dave
