Not very evolved.

I heartily disagree with this kind of mentality.

I may keep the test pipe or I may go back to my HFC. I'm still deciding. It's only been about a month with the test pipe now but it's the noise, not the smell, that will eventually force me back to the catalytic converter. In fact I like the smell. Reminds me of my first car, an old '66 Barracuda. And I could honestly give 2 $hits what the guy behind me thinks. He wouldn't use his blinker, let me merge, stop at the scene of an accident or yield to oncoming traffic whether my car spouted a wonderfull potpouri scent or the odor of raw human fecal matter. It's only the CHP's big noses that I'm worried about.

I have mixed feelings on the pollution aspect of it though. Here in CA we pay obscene amounts for gas, bridge tolls, insurance premiums, taxes and other DMV related fees that supposedly go towards public transportation, improved infrastructure and road maintenance. Nevertheless California has some of the most congested, antiquated and poorly maintained roads in the western world. The best part is that developers just keep building alongside of these already over-used freeways and the cities welcome the revenue without any regard for existing citizens or local commuters. For what people in CA pay in property taxes, the state should be paving the facking roads in gold. Two wrongs don't make a right, but the so-called "tree hugging" beuracrats leading this state don't give a flying fack about "keeping Tahoe blue" or "renewable energy". It's just a tag line so they'll get the vote of those nieve tards kicking around the hacky-sack outside of Starbucks. The fact is that 10% of the vehicles on our roads constitute 80% of the auto related air pollution. Even on the worst days vehicle pollution is a drop in the bucket compared to the crap the factories and chemical refineries pump into the air. They force us to feed our cars dirty burning 91 octane, require expensive smog checks, and spend millions on an 800 number to report stinky cars. What do they do to the refineries and factories? A couple congressman co-sponsored a pollution prevention technical forum to facilitate idea sharing among refiners. Man that sounds groundbreaking. Woopty doo.

When I hear these "spare the air" adds on the radio telling us to carpool (like we wouldn't already if we had a choice) and avoid using our gas powered lawn mower or charcoal BBQ I laugh. My Weber does not cause the grey smog cloud that rolls over Sacramento every evening. It's commercial companies. Enjoy your extra 5-8whp Californians. It's certainly not too much to ask after all the other BS.

Tell you the truth i think the added pollution from all of the evos with test pipes are barely detectable in the earths environment, i wouldnt worry about it so much.

My family and I were behind a catless car a couple of Winters ago, stopped at a light. We were all literally choking on the fumes. Opening the windows didn't help at all, nor did readjusting the heat/ventilation system. Equating a catless car with one with a cat is absolutely absurd! :-(

You read my post.

I stated that changing the factory DP and CAT to a HFC and HKS DP was only worth 5hp on my car.

Then you stated that an SI barely picked up anything from a HFC to a TP. Which is where I was trying to illustrate that exhaust doesn't make near the difference on a NA car vs. a turbo car and that you pick up more from a catback on a turbo car than you would from a full catless exhaust on an NA car.

Test pipe will save you about 10lbs as well... Go for it unless if you're in CA.

Nowadays the High flow catalytic converters are giving almost the same gains of the test pipes, but without pollution.

Does the 5whp more (test pipe vs High flow cat) worth the environment degradation?
The earth has lived through two ice ages, over ten catastrophic meteor impacts, countless earth quakes and volcanic eruptions(which let out much more deadly gases than your little car). I have a problem with environmentalists, because I think they're selfish. We will all one day die out like every other species before us. That doesn't mean the earth will. The carbon monoxide from your car will not change the earths lifespan. Its not going to blow up. It's not going to hurt the planet one bit. It will be here, long after you go.

A volcano will release more carbon monoxide in one erruption than every evo ever made will over the entire lifetime of the car. I know it sounds like the typical american "if it doesn't effect me I dont care" attitude but if any of us cared so much about the environment we would be riding bikes not driving an EVO (and modding them on top of that).

+1. Not only that but the earth its self changes its environment daily. You can say the fumes hurt the animals and us(Which they dont, since we don't have to wear masks outside, I can go outside and still breathe in fresh air and not be harmed no matter how many evo's there are hahaha!), but the earth its self will destroy its own species more readily then an evo's muffler will. Hurricanes drown hundreds of thousands of animals, insects, plants, etc. Famine and diseases kill off animals daily. Hell, the earth even has several diseases that kill you faster than any muffler could dream of(unless you're in your garage with your car on for about thirty minutes). Why don't you try and find a way to help stop cancer or something that actually is a threat to us. The earth will chew you up and spit you out like nothing. Your muffler isn't doing anything to it.
