Evolution Horror Stories
At the time I didnt know I had emergancy road side assistance... I didnt find out till after i paid the 84 bucks to tow it to the dealer. and if you feel froggy the look up a map of el paso. Pelicano dr... east past loop 357... me and some friends were at a old airport out there. the road wasnt more then a few inches deep when we got there. we were there all day. when we left the road had flooded more then expected. the people that were ahead of me were all driving cars... everyone made it so i tried.... the water was barely hitting the kick panels on the car. Since the intake inlet is just uner the edge of the hood i didnt figure it could get in. I even opened the door at one point and the water never touched the interior.... as i started to come out of the water there was either a pop hole the size of china or a dip in the road and the water came over the hood. the car sputter for a second but never stalled so i didnt think much of it. I drove easy on it all the way back to base. when i got home i parked it. the next day i checked it out no water in the oil, that i could see, its was sunday so the dealer was closed. I planned on taking it in the next day but the motor blew that night. The CEL never even came on.
I am only twenty but I have worked on cars since i was twelve. I do have a mechical background. I built my 72 monte carlo to 400 rwhp. along with a half dozen other cars. The only reasons I dont work on my EVO is its to damn expensive and I dont know **** about mitsu technology. I did how ever turbo charge my 04 civic which i traded for my evo.

Hmmmm....well if what you are saying is true then it should not have hydrolocked.....only up to the kick panels.....if that was the case I can see why you tried going through, but I don't see how one splash of water could get into the stock intake box. It would have to be completely submerged, which is why everyone in here is giving you a hard time. It just doesnt make sense.
I guess this is one of those instances where you have to be there to understand, but I really don't see how 6 inches of water turns into 25" of water....even if there is a pothole or dip. How fast were you going through the puddle?

I dont know how fast i was going. I wasnt looking at the speedo I was paying attention to the water. Like i said i even opened my door it wasnt that deep and since it didnt splash into my car i wasnt going that fast.
First thing I woulda done is call AAA and get them to tow it on a flatbed across the water and then I woulda drove home. I'm sure those crazy tow guys coulda made it over the water. Even if you didnt have road side assistance it would have costed maybe 50 bucks and would have saved one huge headache.
You were out at an old airport? Tearing it up huh? Probably launching it repeatedly all day long. Thats most likely when you damaged your tranny. Maybe it was hot and the cold water cracked it when it hit it or the people that replaced your motor tried to pry the tranny apart from the engine from not knowing how to work on it. I dont put anything past the mitsu techs.
I doubt the water had anything to do with the motor letting go since you say it wasnt deep. But you say maybe a pothole the size of China! I thought you drove thru with your door open. Kinda wouldve noticed that!

So you willingly drive in water upto the headlights? Seriously, was it a river you drove though. Many of us have driven through lots of rain without the hood vent closed off - and no dead engines. If the water was that bad, you should not have driven through it, driver 101.
If the car was upto its headlights in water, then water got everywhere, including the clutch. Once soaked to that point I would doubt that it would dry 100%. Taking it out would have been a good idea to check it.
You posted, you get to hear what everyone says. The horror to this story is driving an Evo in 4 feet of water. My condolences go to the car, not the driver. And last time I checked the 1st amendment still was in working order - I speak as I see fit.

^^Bro, I gotta go with you on this one. This guy beats the **** out of a car, does unreasonably stupid things with it, posts the results here, then gets pissy.....Man, it is not an EVO horror story as you would lead us to believe, it is a case of the driver making poor decisions and then complaining about it. I am not bashing you, you probably had the best of intentions, but look back on it now and see how we see it. I wish you luck in resolving this.
I said at one point i opened my door. I didnt have it open the hole time. Nah the mitsu tech here is a really good guy. If he didnt only work at the dealer i would have him putting most of the aftermarket stuff i buy on for me..... Yes the old airport is a drag strip.... at the time NO i hadnt raced my car. If the water had cracked the tranny the mechs at mitsu would have caught it. like i said the guy is good. Plus I had the car back for awhile now since the engine had been change out. add it up. 20 days then 23 days doesnt equal 4mons. I didnt have a problem with the clutch/tranny for some time after i got it back. then night the clutch blew was about 2 and a half weeks ago.... i think. then the clutch totaly gave out not this past weekend but the week end before. didnt drive the car since that saturday and this pass monday i had it towed to get the clutch fixed and that when i found out about the tranny.
the neon wasnt mine.... it was my friends I was the front passanger.... however my insurance is outragous due to a huge speeding ticket i got the week before i left to korea.... so i couldnt fight it.
