Illegal to cut your license plate?
Here is what I did on my old M3
Yes, in WA it is illegal to "tamper" with the plate in any way. Right now there is a referendum coming up to get ride of the front plate.
I know a lot of Porsche & corvette guys cut the plates & don't have any problems.
However your in a EVO, it's "profile" type of car.
Do what you will, your are less likely to get pulled over with a cut plate then no plate.
IMHO, that's a bad place for the plate, it will create a hot area in the IC behind the plate.

Why add a reason to get pulled over anyway? Cops look for stuff like this to pull people over. Once you're pulled over, if the cop is just having a bad day, he'll find anything he can to write a ticket for. I try my best not to give a cop a reason to pull me over in the first place. Nothing against cops, it is their job afterall.

On my Si, I bent my plate so it only displyed the plate number itself. Never had any problems hre in Ohio.
