I'm very aware of the different contributing factors that lead to overall exhaust volume and tone. My RS*R ExMag cat-back is one of the top two or three quietest on the market. I replaced my 3" HFC with a 3" test pipe recently for tuning purposes. I picked up some good power but I also picked up a lot of volume when I'm NOT at WOT, which is about 99% of the time we spend driving our cars. The combo of a very loud exhaust at idle, the lumpy sound of the cams and the other sounds, sights and smells associated with a straight test pipe make me a little worried about being pulled over. I realize that if I get pulled over and the pig sticks his snout under the car, resonated TP or straight TP, I'm still ***'d. I'd just like to find the quietest resonated TP out there to minimize my chances of getting pulled over for exhaust noise.

BTW...the AMS 3" resonated TP only fits their 3" CB setup. Or at least that's what it says on their website.

Evogirlie,

I have an array of bolt on exhaust components, I have a 3" HFC, a test pipe and also a testpipe resonator.
In order of which is louder, the test pipe is the loudest then the test pipe resonator and ultimately the 3" HFC but the thing is that the Evos are so quiet with the Greddy Evo II cat backs that all the 3 combos(3"HFC,test pipe, resonator) are extremelly quiet.

The differeneces are minor among the 3 items. My cars are extremelly quiet inside and out. The exhaust is only loud(not too loud) when wide open throtle. The interior sound is almost non exixtent.

Remember, my cat backs are one of the few cat backs in the market that comes with the additional resonator.

Carlos

Very interesting observation, I will make a mental note of it....

Uh, not quite.
The rre 'rally cat' is also resonated inside to make it quieter.

I musta missed that thread on the NorCal boards. Have you been happy so far with the sound of the RRE piece. I think that would be a nice compromise in volume between my 3" HFC and my 3" test pipe.

Sorry, I don't have a rre rally cat...yet.
I was at a Norcal meet and heard a guy with a rre rally cat and HKS carbon ti catback setup.
At idle and blipping the gas it was just as quiet as my works 3" hi flow cat with the same exhaust. I really could not tell the difference in sound between the two.
Also, the heat shield is a big plus since it gives it a stealth oem look too.

I have a Works RTP and it is not much louder than the stock cat, I was shocked at how quiet it is. It is expensive, but it is a nice piece. I bought it used so I don't feel quite so violated

Is it possible to weld on the stock cat's "shell" to a RTP?

You guys do know that a "test pipe" is just a pipe right?
A resonated test pipe is simply a resonator.

So there really isn't a big difference between different brands of resonated test pipes and test pipes.

One piece of metal is not going to be quieter than another.

I do not think you will hear any differences between resonated test pipes....
the real difference is the cat back. Also i do not bealive there is a major differences between test pipes, other then price, What you really pay is the name . Lets face it its a tube
here is my $29 + S&H /extra $16/ resonated test pipe from e-bay...

AAAnd this is how it looks installed with the factory heatshield on.
