quietest resonated 3" test pipe

I'm loving the extra power of a test pipe but I'm over the extra noise. I've heard that Megan makes a good 3" resonated TP. Any other manufacturers? I'm looking for the quietest so, I would assume, the TP with the largest diameter.

What cat back are you running? This is what I have on the Evo 9:

This testpipe is a resonator pipe as well, it acts as a low restrictred tubular muffle kind of like the cherry bombs/bazookas that you get in pep boys or Autozone but 100000000 times much better finished.

I'm running a Tanabe 2.75" downpipe and an RS*R ExMag cat-back exhaust.

Your exhaust is going to make more of a difference than a resonated test pipe. Yeah a resonator will help but the change in volume may be very small. I went through this with an HKS Hi-Power and couldn't stand the thing after a week.

I'm running the AMS 3" Resonated test pipe, it supposedly keeps the sound level lower...

If you want to talk about mufflers and stuff, that will make a difference sound.

A test pipe is really just a pipe with a perforated straight through design.

The rear section makes more of a difference.

if its the cat-back that drives the sound then howcome when i put a tp w the invidia cat-back the sound was way 2 loud inside the car even on idle. I got rid of the tp then got a 3'' dp and a 3'' hfc same cat-back and now the sound is not loud at all. Can any1 shine some light on this because now i want louder but not like before =)

The difference is that you have a high flow cat in there...which deadens sound a ton.
If you threw 3 different types of resonated test pipes on there, I doubt you would find a measurable difference between them.

The situation you described is not really a "controlled" example/test as you changed out a bunch of things and found a difference in sound.

My friend just got a Tanabe Medallion Touring and the thing is silent.

I ran an RNR resonated TP. Worked great, didn't smell bad either with full 3in non resonated catback.

Rally Cat? The kind that sits on a fence and keeps you up at night with it's yowling?

I have the AMS TBE and originally had the HFC. I then switched to the resonated TP and its quite a bit quieter, especially inside the car, than the cat.

Why would he want that? The rally cat is nothing more that a straight pipe with cat heat shields.
