Has anyone upgraded to MR Bilsteins?

I recently bought an EVO IX SSL. Has anyone here bought a non-MR and then put the MR suspension on? If so . . .

How much difference did it make in terms of ride comfort and handling?
How much did it cost?
Was it worth it (would you do it again)?

Also, my understanding is that the ONLY parts involved are the Bilsteins at the 4 corners and the rear springs. If I am wrong, please let me know.

I have no desire to lower or autocross the car, so I am not looking for suggestions on other suspension changes. I want to keep the car as stock and under warranty as possible - and I think swapping to other factory parts would keep my warranty intact.

Any help would be appreciated.

if you aren't going to autocross it, are you going to track it? that would be the only other reason i can see in spending money on mods...especially handling. I mean its one thing to spend $$$ so you can pass the camry in the other lane faster but it makes more sense if you actually do something with the car...

I'm not going to track it or street race it at all, I just want to know if buying the MR suspension is worth it in terms of enjoyment of the car since it's supposed to ride better AND handle better.

well i have a MR and i enjoy the 'stiff yet smooth' ride that my STi did not have. and it does make the car more enjoyable. however on track its amazing and thats when i really feel happy with an MR vs a GSR

I second the OP's queries as I have the same questions. I would do it for a smoother, more compliant ride as a daily driver.

Cool. I am not ready to buy any myself, but I would probably look for used IX shocks, in case they're different.

FWIW, though, I sometimes see OEM MR IX Bilsteins sold on this forum's used section, usually with under 5,000 miles on them, for around $800 for all four shocks.

I saw one set listed for $850 just sit there for quite some time. Finally they appear to have sold for $800 shipped.

Have you actually driven both to compare?

Drive an MR first. But I think you'll love it. There's no question that it will handle much better with the MR suspension. I also love the feeling of the GSR suspension, it feels like it has a stiff aftermarket suspension straight from the factory. Good luck dude.

I have the regular IX. I had the VIII. I've ridden in a few MR's.

Get the Bilsteins. They rock - it makes for a much more comfortable ride. When you're doing a lot of commuting, your a$$ will thank you for getting them.

Oh, and do yourself a favor and buy them on the Evom boards. You'll save yourself a lot of money doing it. If you have any reservations regarding the warranty, see if the dealership will install them for you.

both? as in STi and Evo or MR and GSR?

cause I've owned an 05 STi for a year before i traded it in for the MR and before i got the MR i drove a GSR and then the MR and decided the ride in the MR was much better for what i was looking for.

Thank you.

Does anyone else have any actual experience with both suspensions that can give me an opinion on whther or not the MR suspension makes that much of a difference?
