New Car buying, taxes and licensing?

I am going to buy an Evo IX SE within the next 6 weeks or so.

I am really wondering how much it costs out the door. I am planing on getting it in california where the sales tax is 8.25% and the price quote is going to be about 29,499.

How much will it be for just the taxes and licensing on this car? I am planing on putting at least 5500 or 6000 down and I just want to know how much more than that I should have ready when I am ready to get in?

I dunno about cali but in TX you can figure on an extra $200 bucks or so for title/license/misc. fees.

200, thats it! Are you sure? I thought it would be more like 2000-3000 for title/license/misc. fees and taxes?

My fees were $165. Tax is 6.5% (?) in Ohio, so take purchase price * 0.065, and that's your tax.

Licensing fees in CA will probably be somewhat higher.

so your quote was 29,000 and your OTD was 34,000.

Damn that's like 5,000 in taxes and licensing fees, is this always the case in CA?

Yea, ttl varies greatly between states. Here in Wisconsin the total ttl for my car was around $1500. If I remember correctly places like Nevada and California it can cost almost $400 alone for license. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought it would be more like 3000 ttl in CA, with an OTD of ~32K if quote was ~29K

thanks Huy's Evo, that really is what I was looking for.

Now could someone tell me what exactly they (dealership) wants at the time of purchase?

Would it be your down payment, plus the ttl (2200 in Huy's case)?

yes taxes and licesnse always come first....so if u hand them 6K and thats all u have then they will pay tax and license first and you would have put 3K or so down on the actual car.

Put as much down as you possibly can, and have the finance guys show you the monthly payments at 2K, 5K, 7K, 10K down, etc so you can see how much less monthly payments/loan length are with more $$$ initially. It'll blow your mind!
