Guys,

I sold my 03 evo because of major paint issues, but I miss her so. I'm having serious thoughts of buying a 06 MR.

Do you guys feels the paint is better quality then the early cars or is it going to be the deal?

if its fast the paint will chip

 

what color was your 03?

 

non metallic colors (ex white, i think red) have 1 or 2 LESS layers of paint compared to the metallic colors (ex. silver, gg, black). so, the non-metallic cars will have paint problems sooner.

My 03 was white. There was rust coming out from under the wing. And then there where little rust spots starting in the door jams and a few other spots.

I kept the car clean and garaged.

the paint sucks period!! My front bumper is chipped terribly and so are both of my rear doors and i have an 05 EB, so the answer is NO the paint is not better

 

Was your car still under warranty when this happened? If so, it would be covered.

 

I have a gg, and personally I think the mitsu paint's kinda cheap. I think the base layers are thin and clear coat's not too durable. I dont believe its just the metallic or non-metallic issue. Just my opinion.

 

Clearbra FTW! The Evo's paint seems to be superior to the paint on my 04 350z. I think I got rock chips from bugs on that thing, it was ridiculous.

 

i have a silver and i noticed that i had a chip on the rear driver side bumper and on the rear. probably from flying rocks. also, i have quite a few on the front bumper now.

 

I have Rally red and the door handles and mirrors have faded and look almost pink compared to the rest of the car. Mine is still under warranty. I'll have to check if dealership will do anything about it, probably not though.

 

my service guy said they have a warranty on paint fade or extreme conditions

 

paint will not protect your car from rock chips...rocks and road debris will chip any paint on any car....that is a reason that bumpers and the bottom of the sides of most cars are plastic and not metal...if they get chipped they will not rust....pretty much any car will get chips sooner or later....that is why they make touch up paint....and it's not cheap...and the color you need is probably only found at the dealership

 

that could be because the mirrors and door handles are plastic and not metal....i've seen a white montero with a plastic cover over the spare tire...the montero was white and the plastic had faded to a yellowish off white
