To look behind, you don't have to turn your head so far as to no longer be able to see what's in front of you. You should still be erfectly able to see a persons brake lights in front of you while glancing over your shoulder before a lane change.

If you don't want to look over your shoulder, buy a wink 5-panel mirror or do the blind-spot fix. Just don't post here later about cutting someone off if you don't see them.
As for irritated drivers following you to curse you out...isn't that what concealed-carry is for?

As I was driving this morning to come to work, I practiced very consciously looking around even if not changing lanes. I also saw at least 4 minor pile-ups on the downtown connector. When it rains here in Atlanta, there are usually tons of wrecks. The people drive way too fast and follow way to close.... It's really a nightmare, the traffic congestion is a disgrace. The huge number of accidents is probably why our insurance rates are so high...
Anyway, I'm gonna go find me some little covex mirrors as soon as I can and no doubt I'll try to pay more attention to all the traffic around me. This is the kind of driving that is not a pleasure at all, I wish we had public transportation that I could use. I'd love to leave my EVO safely at home and only drive it for fun. Commuting really sucks
Oh yeah, I'm very glad that I never have any kind of weapon in my car. I sure don't want to have any sense of false security or any excuse to try any bravado bull****. I prefer to defuse any situation. I costs nothing to apologize if I've done wrong and I actually feel better to own up. As for the other guy I rather not let their mistakes or even provocations make me angry. It's not easy, but I think it's for the best.
i used to drive a 2k1 celica...
compared to the celica, the EVO is a Glass window... the celica had the WORST and BIGGEST blind spots EVER
before changing lanes, blinker+turn your head... should be no problems...

I could have sworn that I looked back as well as checking my mirrors.... Of course, obviously I did not look well enough

...If you're commuting in Atlanta, I feel for you... I visited a friend of mine there a few weeks ago, and we got stuck on 400 in five lanes across bumper-to-bumper not moving traffic...ON A SUNDAY!
SilverEvo8, cutting off that guy may not be entirely just your fault. I was driving my wife's G20 and this guy was crossing over three lanes and speeding like hell. I only saw him at the last moment to avoid a collision.
That guy may have been doing the same thing, speeding up and changing lanes quickly... I see it all the time.

Yeah, it's pretty scary how quickly people will get pissed and how far they will go with the behavior. It's immature really.
I have been guilty of it myself in the past. Took some anger management
...
Either way, I think you did awesome keeping cool and even taking accoutability for it. I wish there were more people like you on the road and set an example for others.

If anyone tries to follow me, I would brake-check them constantly and try to lose them in high-speed traffic, and if that doesn't work, I just stop to a gas station and see if he wants to start more **** with me. And if they try to harm me or my car, then he will eventually end up getting his *** kicked, don't care how big he is.

starts who's *** are you gonna kick? Let's get real here. In more places than I care to count you are better off maintaining awareness so that you can avoid these kinds of situations. Kids carry guns these days and you won't know they have them until it's too late. Even brake checking, which is illegal by the way, can escalate an already bad situation. It's easy to talk trash on this forum. I hope those of you that are foolishly entertaining these ideas have enough common sense to keep them here for our entertainment where they remain inconsequential and won't get you seriously hurt.
Just make sure you have plan B ready to go if you are ever involved in one of these situations you are describing.
There's a thin line between hardcore and stupidity.
Ya know, I hate blind spots, but I hate looking over my shoulder. I always feel like the second I look over my shoulder, some idiot in front of me is going to slam on their brakes for no reason, or someone might slam on em for a good reason... Either way, there's something about taking my eyes off the road in front of me that really really scares me...
the C pillar in my grand am is Huge...u can't see anything unless its in your mirror or in the side window...it sucks...my sisters sedan(also a grand am) is no where near as bad as my coupe
I was just going to say, while we're on the subject, that Magnas must have incredible blind spots. I was travelling inside lane, about 70kph, when this stupid ***** pulled a u turn off a sliplane, went wide into the outside lane, and corrected it just in time for me not to be able to brake. There goes the side of my 2002 Lancer Coupe, quotes at panelbeaters are A$2000.
They say they can repair it back to mint condition though - i hope so too. Just remember to treat every other driver as a ferkin' idiot until their at least 100m behind ya.
