I love reading the replys about guys still living at home with mommy and daddy and drive a $30K car. I take my daughter to speach thearapy every Tuesday and it's in the same building as the people that dropped out of high school that are there going to night school to get their GED. Im always amazed when I get walk out into the parking lot and it looks like the set of the Fast and the Furious movies. LOL

+1, I watched that movie with my girlfriend a bunch of times, I liked it. I have a friend like that he's 28 I think. . . . I do the same though sadly. I live with my pop but have my own finished appartment, pay rent, goto school, and own my own buiness and work part time @ 22. Payed of a used evo in a year but I still owe on credit cards for mods and other stuff

i just read this entire thread and it's so freaking funny. Most of you guys practically work so you can pay for a car. Yes, living at home has it's perks. But, I live at home and I have to pay for alot of stuff.

Car and insurance is one thing. Add on top of that the maintenance for the car.

Then you have your other personal stuff like, Cell phones, money for the week to eat. Transportation ( gas ) or anything else besides your car. Taking care of yourself, as in your clothes for work. Other such bills as in Credit Cards and stuff.

Join the real-world dude. Life isn't just about a f-ing car!

I drive a Lancer.

Wow, some of you guys are really salty about some people not having to pay bills. You would take the opportunity as well if you had the chance. Dont let your jealousy blind you people from the real world that you think you know. There is always going to be someone out there that doesn't have to pay any bills, owns a nice car, and sometimes lives with their parents (Sometimes they dont, sometimes their parents buy them a nice $200k condo and pay for everything until they turn 25.) WHO CARES, i would take some of that stuff in a heartbeat (besides living with my parents, i HAD to move out when i graduated from high school).

You guys that b|tch need to get over it, i did a while ago...

Back on topic. Like some were saying, if you have to ask then no. maybe if your parents help you out you can make it happen. with how high insurance rates and gas prices are, i would say its tough to own any car under the age of 25 ($30K range.)

yah i dont want to be working for my car if you know what i mean... my parents said that as long as i am finishing school i can live at home without paying rent. My only expenses are right now going out (eating, buying random stuff, movies, clothes) so i have some money saved for a good down payment. My parents are ofering to pay my down payment on the car which would really help me out a ton but i kinda think thats a lot to take concidering i still live at home and im useing there place. I will see though but for now im going to keep saving my money and maybe sometime later when i have some money saved up take my parents off for the down payment.

Thanks for your help guys. I only came on here asking this question beause i knew there would be other peole who were in the same situation as me and whats better then experience?

thanks

My issue is, I know I can afford it, but do I really want to spend the money when I can pay for a house down the road? Even when I can save 2k a month with the car, is it really worth it when I could be saving 3k instead?

I'm only 24, but I have a fiancee and we both have great jobs. She has a beater and I have a WRX Wagon that she'd drive if I bought the car. It's a question that continues to plague me.

Edit: Just to be clear, I don't live with my parents

dont get it, you'll be going to college soon(or should be ), it will be h.a.r.d to make payments on a car(let alone a $30,000 car)...

No, I think a lot of smart guys are on here giving smart suggestions of better uses of your money. Get an education, get a job, get a house, get a savings. These things don't lose their value over time. Get a car and lose $5-6k right off the bat. Not to mention depreciation over time. You might get some chicks, but you'll have to take'em home to mommy.

Reading only 2 pages I noticed atleast 5 immature evo owners =O... Anyways consider many things like if u get a used one it could be in bad condition since many people abuse the hell of it. You are 18 if you are planning to go to school i say keep your GT thats a pretty good car. If you get the evo you will want to mod the hell out of it and possibly fall into way 2 much debt. Think about maintenance, car pymt, insurance (18 expect atleast 250 a month depending where you live), gas. I'm almost 22 bought an evo a bit over a year ago and baby the hell out of it so far no problems but if i didn't get the deal i got i would prob not have the evo. Can u control urself and not race every idiot out on the street that will rev his car at every other stop light next to you?? whatever your decision is goodluck and remember even if you don't get it now you will probably be able to get it and afford it better later on =)

that's a brash generalization. I'm an accountant at a prominent real estate investment firm and will be enrolling in an MBA program shortly. Just because you live at home with a FnF car doesn't mean you're a drop out trying to get his GED.

18 year old that invests $4000/year ($333/mo) in a Roth IRA with good mutual funds would have a million bucks in tax free dollars before age 50. Don't spend half your income on a depreciating asset! STUPID! You could fund the Roth and get a nice used car and still come out ahead over the Evo.

That sounded well rehearsed. Do you have to explain that to all the girls you meet when you invite them back to ma and pa's place?

Move out already dude! If you can afford an Evo, you can afford rent.
