Move out already dude! If you can afford an Evo, you can afford rent.
My thoughts exactly.

Yeah, I guess I'm so obsessive about saving that I'm not sure how much I want to save on top of my Roth, 401k and other investments.

This is what I did and it worked just as this gentleman states. I saved my money and drove beaters for years. Friends of mine were buying Corvettes and sinking thousands into Mustangs. They're in the junk yard now and I can walk away from my job if I wanted to. Somebody who's 18, living at home, and making $25,000 or $40,000 a year is in no position to buy a $30,000 car.

Don't get me wrong, it is awesome to have an Evo and it is tons of fun, but it comes at a huge cost. You're living at home to save money, not buy an expensive, high maintenance car. You're doing a disservice to yourself buy buying an Evo and living at home. It makes no sense.

I paid my Evo off in 1.5 years, so I have mitigated the ill effects almost entirely, but now I have a 30k car that's worth 24k or so, where if I'd invested in something worthwhile, I'd be sitting pretty on a nice chunk of change.

Bottom line, don't do it.
Agreed.
When you get as old as me (35) all you can think about is saving your money and getting to retirement as fast as possible. I just bought an EVO, but everything is in place and I invest 23% of my check into my 401K, so I can retire around 60 hopefully. If I could do it again, I would have studied harder and got awesome grades, gone to college (4 year), got my BSME, graduated at 21, got a job at a good company, and by now I would probably be making $75,000+/yr and invested a lot more into 401K and I may have been able to retire at 50. But I took the "slacker route" and did the "bare minimum".

Save your money, get college out of the way, and look towards the future, then you can get a hot car.

If you feel the need to ask, you don't have the money. The costs (just in parts) is brutal on the EVO compared to your mustang.

ask your parents for some help, say you'll pay them back after college..... i suggest going into pharmacy... a buddy of mine made 95k after graduating with only 2 years of pharmancy school after his regular 4 years.... he was 24 at the time... now he makes well over what i make.... doctor of pharmacy is better than doctor of medicine... less stress and good money... then you can pay back your parents and more.... don't listen to what other people say just borrow from your parents

I just bought an 03 Evo and I am 20. Right now my family is really supportive, in that they are helping me build my credit. And helping me with payments and with what they can. We are not the richest of people, believe me. I know it is probably an unwise decision to go with an EVO to do this. But I plan to keep mine stock and mainly a weekend driver. Im goign to keep regular maintanence and keep it covered. Even while I ago over to the next town and go to college (junior transfer), hopefully financial AID can help me out there. For the first couple days and even a little bit today, I kinda slept un easy.

Life is full of ups and downs, like so many have said its ur decision. There are many things out there much better, but it is up to you. You make mistakes, and you learn from them. Maybe this is a mistake, but I am rolling with the punches and hopefully wont get knocked down.

Once its paid off, its paid off. But untill then u live each day....

My answer is if it really is an answer, make it a good one....
