Question What Do I Do?

Alright Guys... I'm Nearly 18 (young, i know, but please don’t base your opinion off of this, I am being honest with you guys) and I am obsessed with an Evo. I currently drive a 2002 VW Passat GLX (KBB of 13,500). Since I am a senior in high school, my parents are allowing me to get a new car this coming summer in early July. Obviously, I want an Evo. I have about 6k to my name and I make 800/month with a part time job (20 hour work weeks, not bad i know for my age). I figure i can get at least 12-14 grand by then as long as I safe well and Invest well and smartly. That's roughly 25 grand, including my Passat’s depreciation and trade in value. However, my problem is, there will not be any NEW Evo IX's around by then. My parents won't let me buy now no matter what, they do not like change for some odd reason, so I have to wait no matter what.

Do I wait for the Evo X? Do I go used? Look for a different car? Suggestions? Is their any information on the pricing of the Evolution X? I like it, but not if it's more expensive.

Also, I’m not saving the money, I do not have to pay a dime for college tuition, and I will have a part time job then too. Please do not suggest saving the money, i've made my decision. So i can finance a little bit.

Thanks,

TJ

Well..... just don't forget to factor in insurance cost, and maintaince, tires, brake pads.... It's $$$.

From what I've heard.... don't get a X. It'll be like a rolling computer controlled swiss army knife.

Because obviously I cant buy a X yet, and i wont be able to buy an IX as they stopped making them in Augest-ish. I told you I made up my mind on an Evolution :P

And yah, I pay for insurance too . I will be under a different car though, only 10% on the Evo.

It's illegal for you to do that with insurance. If they ever find out, your family will get dropped, so do not think you can just defraud the system with no repurcussions.

There is really no question and no answer. When July comes, look at your options and make a decision. I don't know why you're asking now, I don't know how you will save 12-14k in 8 months when you will only make 6k between now and then, and I don't know what it is you think allows you to invest for only 6 months and actually make a profit after taxes.

There's nothing you can do now - you're just being antsy and impatient. When the time comes, decide based on what is available. The X won't be out yet in July, but there will likely be some new IXs still on the lots.

Open a Roth IRA and deposit money into there and buy a nice used car. It makes absolutely no sense to buy a $30k car to take to college - especially when you have no money or income.

agreed:
There will be a car in the future that will be worth the wait for you to have more disposable income. maybe an evo XII, or a skyline whatever. You don't ever want to buy a car that you can't afford. w/ your reasoning, you would be owning the car by the skin of your teeth, and if you get sick, and can't work a week, then hello repo man.

I'd be surprised if your dad let you buy it if he's an investor!

just because they will stop making the IXs dosent mean that you won't be able to find one.

You still have 8 months away--like others have said, just wait till the time comes then see what you can work with...
