Are you looking at IRP? This may be too late in the year, but there have to be HPDEs there. I've been that track a couple times. Watch that wall when you feed onto the drag strip, especially if it's wet!

I did skip barber as well when i was 16. I only did the one day driving school, which teaches all of the fundamentals of car control (proper skid control, braking w/out abs, and a skim over racing lines). You get to do a mini autocross at the end and it was only 700 bucks. I'm planning on doing their high performance driving school sometime next year. I would definitely reccomend at least the driving school because you just get soo much out of it.

Also check out the Panoz racing school. Yes, it costs a lot of money, but you will get the best instrucution and feedback from going to a real racing school. HPDE's a ton of fun, but you won't learn nearly as much. If you REALLY want to learn, then a racing school is the only place to go. If you're looking to learn some and have fun, HPDEs.

try all the car clubs.
PCA.org goto regional directory and find some regions close to you. i have done 4 events with the pca. they have been very good to me. not all pca instructors drive porsches. some regions only allow porsches at there events though. at most events i have gotten over 200 miles of track time. usually 20 to 40 minute sessions.

You need to go to Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Racing. They have an article in Modified Magazine (December 2006). You aren't going to find a low priced driving school. They are PRO drivers, not just ordinary people. Bob Bondurant teaches you all of the basics, how to control in turns, etc. Its also a ton of fun. No you dont drive stick, its all in automatic...for the basic driving. BTW, this is all in Arizona. You can choose a different course that you drive race ready mustang GTs, and corvettes. But look into it.

For people in the NE, try PDA:

http://www.pdadrivingschool.com/

I did a 2 day event (Pocono Long course), it's close to $500 total not counting the set of tires and brakes you'll go through. Definitely worth the $, especially because it allows you to outdrive a faster car on the street easily if you apply what you learned.

the 4 events i have done,
last fall. mid-ohio $340= over 200 miles on track + long sleeve pca shirt.
last spring, beaverun $300 just about 200 miles in 2 days.
last weekend in sept. beaverun $300 same as above.
first weekend in november mid-ohio $340 about 240 track miles.

all events with the pca. all prices do not include hotel or gas. PCA instructors my not be pro drivers but they know there stuff.

if you really want to learn heel and toe all you have to do is practice. once you get the hang of it, its second nature. practice practice practice.
