Cams unreliable?

Is it true that cams make your car less reliable?

If they are tuned properly then they shouldn't. But as a general rule, any power mod will make the car less relaible due to more stress on it.

if its tune you should be fine
in general any mod that makes more power will make the car less reliable due to more stree on the engine.

bigger cams means bigger lobes, which mean high lift and duration, which means more strees on the valve springs and retainers.

bigger cams means more top end power= high rev limit= higher piston speeds, more strees on the rod bolts and bottom end, higher chance of sping a rod or main bearing, higher chance for valve flote= higher change of piston to valve contace=higher chance of droping a valve, due to higher rpm and higher lift= less reliable than stock

It's not like you're introducing some sort of new mechanism to the engine. We're just replacing the STOCK cams with a more aggressive set. With proper fuel management and tuning there should be no problems. The extra power will put additional stress on the drivetrain, but so does driving around fat chicks.
