Evo wont start...You have to be kidding me... (copy)

Ok I'm Pist the F Off!!!!

I understand it's cold outside but that isnt a excuse not to start...My moms 80 year old geo tracker starts right up and my RSX never had these problems... And that's thaT IT'S MODIFED TO HELL.

The Evo is brand new and it pulls this crap off.. Pathetic!.

Ok..

So I go try to start it. It's about -3 outside. When I click over it lagged like crazy and it didnt want to start, so I revved it up a little. The Rpms didnt go up at all they just stayed down there barely moving...Then boom it turns on but I have this HUGE CLOWD of grey/black smoke!...

I leave it there for a little and it shuts off....Now I cant even click over. The light that shows my door is open doesnt even sound normal..It's all jittery like it's having a heart attack.

Did my EVo just lay an EGG or what? But no worries I can fly to work..I have to be there in 20 minutes and now I'm going to be late..

How much fuel is in the tank? Where do live that it's -3? You may have water in the gas from condensation. It's that time of year!

Meh. Dead battery. Could happen to any car. Cold really messes up batteries. Should be covered under warranty.

dead battery... Jump it. And dont ever rev an engine when its not warm... the oil is still all in the oil pan at that point... aka not protecting the engine. Give it a few minutes to warm up, especially* in that cold of weather.

Wow looks like you have never owned a turbo car before.

All you have to do is floor it then try to turn it on it should turn on after 1-4 try's this happen to me last year when it was 10 deg. outside. Once its on you have to keep reving it untill the car is warm so it can stay on by its self.

Worst thing you can do to a cold car

He should stop giving it gas while trying to start it because since its fuel injected everytime the car he any chance of firing up the fuel just floods it out and then when it did finally start up that was the black cloud come out of the exhaust...

+1

IDRINKV8 - ....dude....dont give out bad information.....you never want to floor or give a F.I. car gas while cranking the motor.......if you have to in order to get it started, you're looking at other issues aside from the cold weather.

This thread is amazing.

OP: it is almost certainly your battery not being able to handle the cold weather. Do you have a battery warmer? What viscosity oil are you running? For weather that cold you could step it down to 5W-30 for sure.

You should not have to do anything with the gas pedal for the car to start. There is a good chance the reason your car bogged and ran like crap was because the voltage was low enough the computer was not functioning properly hence the warbley sounding door chime.

Either bite the bullet and go buy a new battery or try to get warrantied.
