you should just get a battery with more cold cranking amps, I was looking at a chart somewhere the other day at the diffence in amperage a battery puts out and the amount it takes the starter to work in different temps. And at -5 you need a high cold crank amperage. PS sorry if this was mentioned but I got tired of the bickering and just went to the last page.

I figured it was a dead battery..It just kind of bothers me that my 30+ Thousand dollar car *****es out in the cold when the Little Geo Tracker with 100,000+ miles on it starts up like nothing.

And no the EVo never did this untill earlier today...

He should stop giving it gas while trying to start it because since its fuel injected everytime the car he any chance of firing up the fuel just floods it out and then when it did finally start up that was the black cloud come out of the exhaust...
Ignorance is bliss.
This is regards to flooring the engine before turning it over:

Jmartinez actually may be on to something here. I'm not certain of how the maps are set on the EVO - but for a lot of EFI engines, this is EXACTLY what you do. Not true of a carburated engine - but EFI yes.

I happen to recall some of this information from way back in my ME494 class...so I dug up a little 411:
http://www.icbm.org/erkson/ttt/engin...basic-ems.html

Specifically:
"Often the operator will provide a no fuel position at the maximum load site at speed site zero, this is provided to clear out a flooded engine. Then to clear the engine of fuel it is necessary to open the throttle to its maximum and then crank. Since cold start and cranking fuelling adjustments are percentage corrections to the fuel map, when applied to a zero fuel setting they will also be zero."
