crappy dealer oil change

so here's the deal...i got my oil changed at the dealer.....i drove around a lot the next day....then i checked the oil level after the car had been sitting for a long time...it seems the dealer overfilled the oil by about 1/8" (more or less)...i drained some oil out and got it to the right level....i was just wondering if driving it around all day may have damaged anything...it seemed to be running fine...actually it ran smoother than normal....i was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this.....well...i'll just do my own oil changes from now on

don't worry about. but start changing your own oil don't trust people who don't give a damn about your car. you really think if they overfill your oil they are going to drain a little out, no way they could care less. just do it yourself next time.

Had the same thing happen to me. I thought something was fishy when the receipt noted a extra charge for > 5qts. 5.6qts synthetic to be exact. I went out to the garage and sure enough; waaaay too full.
Really bothers me, but I only drove the 35 miles home like that - and just commuting, nothing sprited.

Drained out a ton and made the decision to change my own oil. Actually bought 5 qts of Mobil 1 synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter at Autozone for $35.99! The 104 filter btw; not the 110 that comes up on their puter (search on this).

For some reason they pulled the undertray from my car when changing oil and they were going to just partially put it back. They left a bunch of the fasteners out.

man....this just makes me think....if they can't even do an oil change right should i let them do anything to my car....like changing the drive/timing belts, brake pads, etc.....

anyway i know the car burns some oil..it was a little under the max mark when i went to get it changed but still close to the max mark... i just know there are warnings in the manual and such about overfilling causing aeration of the oil and loss of oil pressure that could damage the engine.....the reason i was asking is because i drove it pretty much most of the day.....almost a whole tank of gas....i wasn't boosting a lot or anything...mostly interstate driving

ok...this is going to rack your brain...i need some participation here...so if i'm checking the oil with the dipstick while standing in front of the car with the word "engine" on the dipstick facing right side up my oil level is right on the max mark....(after i drained some oil of course)...and if i flip the dipstick over with the word "engine" upside down and check it the level is above the max mark ...so which way are you supposed to do it.....i didn't think there would be any difference...or do i just have a messed up dipstick...i did notice that the dipstick has a slight curve in it....so which way is it supposed to curve when you check the oil?... ..this is crazy...i miss my old toyota truck with the criss cross pattern on the dipstick...but i didn't even need it....the owner's manual said 4.5 quarts and that's what i put in and it was on the money every time
