How to Dim an Autometer Boost Gauge
How to Dim an Autometer Boost Gauge
Can the LED Autometer Boost/Vaccum gauge be dimmed? I have a sport comp 2 3603 boost gauge that is very bright. Blinding me into oncoming traffic in the late hours of the night. I currently have it connected to a 7.5A fuse under the dash that is used to control the instrument cluster.
Is it worth my time to wire this to the cigarette lighter? Can these gauges be dimmed?

Yes, I believe the fuse I connected to is for dimming the instrument cluster. However, it may just be for turning the instrument cluster off and on. Unless someone tells me it can't be dimed I'm going to connect it to the cigarate lighter tonight. The lighter will only have 2 wires and whatever is connected to it should dim when it does. This should work, but I'm not all that familiar with the LED of the gauge. It could be either off or on, which would suck. I'll post on this tomorrow after I've tried to do the cigarette lighter thing.

Prepare to get blinded. If my adventure tonight doesn't work out I'm going to experiment with resistors. Then lastly I will finish with an on/off switch. It's ridiculously bright.
Its because the power for the dash lights is constant, the negative portion is what runs to the rheostat (dimmer) thats why if you wire it from the fusebox it comes on bright and stays that way..

There is a how to that explains what wire to tap for the dimmer. I'll see if I can find it. It is one of the ones that comes out of the dimmer swith in the dash not out of the fuse box. You will only draw power for the light from here not the gauge itself.
Here ya go: Step 36.

This link isn't working, could you verify that it is correct? and if so would you let me know what it says about wiring this gauge. I can't see this page, it could be my rig.

Could you explain what the three wires are on the dimmer and how to wire an autometer gauge to it so that it will dim with the instrument cluster?
From link:
"Reach up behind the fuse panel and remove the dimmer switch. Remove the connector from the switch.
Connect the positive LED gauge light daisy chain lead to the green-white dimmer wire using a quick connect. Connect the negative lead to the black-yellow dimmer wire with a second quick connect and reinstall the switch."

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for.
