Freakin snow!!!!!

So Chicago got hit with a big snow storm last night...

I'm driving back from work, the same route I always take (I know all the pot holes and rough surface by heart). Anyways I'm driving under a bridge that the right side of the lane has about 3 small pot holes (maybe 5 long" and about 1" deep), nothing major, I always drive through them since there really isn't a way to avoid them. But today one of those potholes became a FREAKING MONSTER. I noticed it last second, it had to be about 11" long 8" wide and about 7" deep!!! And then BAM!!!!
I hit that thing so hard that my windsheild wipers turned on and my radio skipped, actually just turned off and back on (I was listening to the radio, not a CD!!) I was positive the wheel cracked/chipped from the sound of it, but I imidiently stopped and seen it looked ok. I had to get on the highway for about 2 miles to get home, and everything seemed fine, no vibrations from the steering wheel.

I'm really pissed right now, I hope I didn't damage anything. What you guys think? Is there something I should check for? How durable is the EVO's suspension? I know if it would have been my old GTI, then something would have been broken, I know this from experience.

I would call the city and see what they had to say about the pothole. Some cities fix discrepencies (small ones) with vhicles damaged by roads where the state collects a tax. If something is wrong or you got a bad feeling, go to a shop and have them check it out. If at least for nothing more then piece of mind.

I would take a good look under the car and inspect your suspension and anything else visible..... check the wheel on the inside.....also keep an eye for any signs of a leaky strut.....you might have blown it with such a hit.....good luck......

That sucks. Jersey has nasty pot holes wether it snows or not. I'm lookin forward to a little fun in the snow this year.

Best thing to do is take it out for a ride on a clear road, see if you hear any starnge noises or to see if the car shakes. Could mess up your alignment. I hit a BIG one around 80mph and now my alignment is all jacked up.

Well I just got back from the garage. I took the wheel off, and gave it a good inspection. Everything look fine on it. I looked at the strut, dry as a bone. I inspected the control arms, all the links and everything looked good as well. I gave everything a good pull and nothing moved.
Thanks guys

Check the tire too. Sometimes a sharp hit can damage them.

I will get the alignment checked soon, but I drove the car for about 30 miles today and everything seemed fine.

I was in Arnold Nebraska the summer before last looking for my second cousin's house. I tend to go by landmarks not addresses so I wasn't paying much attention to the road. Blaamm!!! This was a bone jarring, tooth chipping hit. I got out figuring at least a wheel was gone.

The first thing I wanted to see was what I hit. A city worker (I guess) had cut out the asphalt for a manhole after they had repaved the street. I'd say the hole was 10 inches deep! No barricade or anything else was around. Well, the wheel wasn't bent where I could see the outside and the car drove okay. So I blew it off until I got home.

I do my own alignment so soon after I arrived home I had my alignment tools out. The first thing I checked was front toe. It was exactly at zero the same as before the incident. I never found anything wrong with the suspension or wheels. So, I gotta say the Evo suspension is rally car strong.

Yea, good to hear. I just put about another 30 highways miles and the car drive just fine. I guess I'm junt gonna let it go. Man that is some strong suspension.

I remember years back when I was drving my 93 talon home in a big snow storm from some formal party I was at. So it was about a foot of snow, 10 degrees out side, I'm all dressed up and BAM!!! The wheel bent about 2 inches (not repairable) the sidewalls got cut, and I'm in the middle of a VERY bad neighborhood.
I pull over and start changing my tire. A cop pulls up and says,
"What you doin out here son..."
My car is already jacked up, I'm almost frozen, and pissed as hell...
"Um, changing a tire... (In my head I'm thinging, WTF does it look like.)"
Cop, "Well this really isn't the best neighborhood for you to be changing a tire."
Me, more frozen and more pissed "Yea, well I didn't really plan this you know."
So he sat in his car next to me the whole time and watched me.

So yea, this time it was a MUCH harder hit and I was sure that mu wheel was a goner (along with other things), but thankfully everything seems to be good.

Thanks guys
