Does anyone truly regret modifying their Evo?
this is not the first time i have spent an extreme amount of money on my car/s. i have a lifted nissan titan that i spent close to 10k lifting and rims and such and no regrets. as for my evo, there are no regrets, but if i could change something i would have gone with the ams 23rr motor instead of the cosworth crate 2.2 motor- but it so minor it really doesn't really bug me that much.
I have a nearly stock Evo (custom tune, drop-in air filter) and somehow, I'm contemplating additional mods (modest, nothing outlandish). I would appreciate a few responses from those of you who have invested a significant amount of money into modifying their cars, say more than $5,000. For those in this category, do you have "buyer's remorse"? Have your modifications ultimately been more trouble than they are worth? If you had to do it all over again, knowing what you know now, would you have done things differently? I want to avail myself of the collective wisdom of those who have already gone down this path before I make any decisions.
I indeed put more than $5000 on the car on mods.
Mistake number one was replacing the stock IC with the largest aftermarket IC available in the market and retaining the stock turbo.
Mistake number two, spending a monumental $409 on a o2 housing
Mistake number 3, ignition amplifiers, I never needed one
Mistake number 4, getting headers that crack
Last but not least, buy and keep one set of cams, the prices of buying another set plus labor does not correspond the performance increase (difference on power between one set and another set maybe 5whp)
Unless you don't care about looks or sounds, get the cheapest reliable turbo back, they all make similar power but at a different budget.
Do not spend money buying the poeln filtration filter, it is a $50 waste, they can be clean or repaired.
Do not spend huge moeny on Brembo pads, there are other much more affordable brake pads that will do the job.

Im not reading this thread, but every day I look back at the money I have spent on my car, and think, wow, I could have been half way to paying this ***** off already. I wish I just spent my money on a few more bolt ons and a mild cam, rather than a built tranny and a clutch that, although it grabs and holds like a champ, makes daily driving hard on the knees.
If there is a person that fits your criteria that would be me. I don't fully regret modding the car but I must at least give you my point of view.

+500034. smart shopping via lots of research before committing buy ftw.
understand what your goal for your car is, then figure out a pathway to get there. research first, and when you still have unanswered questions, ask reputable shops/knowledgeable members for guidance - if you buy parts right and do things right a modded Evo will be very enjoyable
I have not started modding the car yet but I have some stuff lying around the house that i wanna put on when its a bit warmer, and I haev never had doubts about modding the car..thats one of the reasons i bought an evo!
I'm saving my tax return which i haven't got and make interest of it and then do the same for this year tax return and then take 75% of it and start modding as time permit... i'm too busy working 2 jobs
loving every minute of it. 2.3 and 35R with other exterior goodies.. about 15-20k in mods total . couldnt be happier
but if your going to spend money on mods make sure to do it right the first time and not buy unecessary parts you gonna replace in the future. For instance dont buy downpipe if your gonna get a turbo kit in the future...etc

I'm really gonna try to end this b/c it's a DD and I have another car as a project. Even though I haven't started modding yet, I can already come up with about $2k I wouldn't mind putting in it though. Although consistent 12's would make me happy, there are plenty of other things I can spend my money on in the upcoming years.
ROFLMAO!!!!
my car will get tuned at HKS next week.
