Which model should I buy, Tranny dependent?

Hi all, from looking through a bunch of old posts it seems that all the warranty issues evo owners encounter seem to be transmission related (the 4g63 seems to be bullet proof, even with mods). Does the six speed fail more frequently then the five speed. And If you could purchase your evo over again which model would you pick and why.

Again thanks for your patience and insight.

Also forgot to ask, what options? I'm not a SSL guy, I'm more into performance. Do things like the vortex generator, front anti sway bar, rear anti sway bar, additional spoiler lip thingy and corner air dam extensions make a difference, better yet what is worth the money and what is crap.

the 6 speed has more problems than the 5 speed, which are stronger since there's one less gear (they were able to make the gears thicker)

if I had a chance to rebuy...i think i would've gotten a MR since i do a lot of highway driving and i would like that 6th gear. i had to adjust to driving a 5 speed since i drove a s2000 quite a bit before

but the 5 speed is the favored weapon of choice

gears 1-3 on the 6-speed are beefier and stronger, 4+ are beefier and stronger in the 5-speed. anyway, i'd get a IX GSR SE if i could do it over right now, the SE wasn't an option for me in 05, and i definitely wanted the aluminum roof panel, so i was narrowed to MR or RS, but i couldn't live in a DD without power, and the suspension and HID's aren't bad either. my tranny's fine with 36K on it so far, knock on wood, most only have 4th gear problems with road racing for lengthy durations. don't think many have busted the 6-speed drag racing.

Well if you are more into performance the RS is the obvious choice. It's lighter and you save about $3k, over the GSR, money saved which you can spend on mods. Most go with the GSR. I love my RS and would not give it up for anything.

I have a IX with the 5 speed. Its been in the shop for 3rd gear grinding. They said iit was fixed and not too far down the road it started doing the same thing. I havent had the chance to take it back yet. Thats my only complaint.

5 speed is a more bulletproof tranny, the MR 6speed tends to be a bit weaker. Dont believe me? Do a search and also look at all the high HP and low 1/4 mile times....ALL of them are base EVOs, never MRs.

I am at 50k in my 03 with a 5speed. Not a single problem, TC case is fine, tranny is fine, NO grinds, NO lockout, etc.
Surprisingly i got 49k outta my stock clutch also, and that was with quite a bit of abuse (autoX, drag, launching, fun on the highway) I just earlier today ordered an Exedy Twin HD clutch with flywheel and factory TOB. I am in utter awe that i got almost 50k outta the stock clutch especially with my modifications.....but the clutch is at the VERY end of its life, since 45k i have had a lot of clutch chatter along with a hard time getting it to hold above 5k launches. The exedy will take care of ALL my problems!

Also if something goes wrong with either the 5 speed or the 6 speed, I have been told that the 5 speed is cheaper and easier to work on.

nince SE, I drove them all and looked for months... I would def say its the best plat form. Unless you are just using it as a DD then the MR....

I have an SE with 2500 miles and it has an audible grind going into 3rd. Should I take it in or switch to better fluids now. I have a closet full of mods ready to go on and a tune coming up. I am stock right now, should I go in or will I get the run-around?
